The way we love at 22 is rarely how we love at 35. Or 45. Sometimes the change is loss: walls built from heartbreak, a smaller radius of trust. Sometimes it's growth: more patience, better words, less drama around the small things. What's changed most about how you approach love or relationships compared to a younger version of you?

The Drama Triangle describes a pattern of interaction that keeps conflict alive and relationships stuck. Victim: feels powerless, may unconsciously invite rescue or persecution. Rescuer: jumps in to help often without being asked, feels resentful when help isn't appreciated. Persecutor: blames, criticizes, controls. Perfectionism in relationships usually doesn't look like someone demanding perfection from their partner. It looks like someone who can't tolerate their own mistakes. 'I've been feeling lonely in us' is one of the most vulnerable and important things a partner can say.

Surviving looks like: making it through the week without a major blow-up. Coexisting. Managing. Thriving looks like: genuine curiosity about each other. Laughter that happens naturally. Conflict that leads somewhere instead of just ending. Feeling chosen, not just accommodated. A lot of couples mistake surviving for 'doing fine.' The bar has dropped so low that the absence of open conflict reads as health. But you deserve more than a relationship you're managing.

Sometimes the best part of the week is a good lunch with great company. Enjoyed lunch with some of our amazing therapists, and it was a great reminder of the heart behind our work. Grateful for the connection, the laughs, and the incredible care they bring every day. đź’™
