I’ve had a few couples over the years where one spouse comes in first, and the other eventually follows. Doreen was one of those patients.

After seeing her facelift results at 59, her husband Anthony started thinking about what a facelift could do for him. At 61, he ultimately decided it was his turn.

Neither result is meant to be a copy of the other. Doreen and Anthony have different facial anatomy, different concerns, and different goals, so their surgical plans were individualized accordingly.

And I think that’s one of the most interesting parts of facial rejuvenation: sometimes you don’t really start thinking about surgery until you see what is possible on someone you know.

Two people. Two different faces. Two individual surgical plans.

If you’re considering a facelift and wondering what might make sense for your own face, start with an individualized conversation!

Lower blepharoplasty is often described as “removing eye bags,” but the lower eyelid is much more nuanced than that.

In Ashley’s case, I identified a medial lower-eyelid fat bulge with a valley beneath it, along with subtle discoloration and a transition between the lower eyelid and cheek that I wanted to blend.

My approach involved conservative fat reduction, strategic fat placement to smooth the contour, a small amount of fat added to the cheeks, and light laser treatment to the lower-eyelid skin.

The goal isn’t simply to remove tissue. It’s to understand the anatomy and address the different factors contributing to the appearance of the lower eyelid while maintaining the relationship between the eyelid and the eye.

Considering lower eyelid surgery? Start by understanding your anatomy and what is actually contributing to the appearance of your lower eyelids.

One of the most common questions I hear from facelift patients is: “What will my incisions look like after surgery?” 👉🏻 The answer is that they change significantly throughout the healing process.

At 5 days after my patient’s deep plane face and neck lift, we can see the incision is still very early in the healing process. Redness, swelling, and other changes are expected at this stage. As the weeks pass, the incision continues to mature. Redness gradually fades, swelling settles, and the scar becomes less noticeable. By almost 4 months, you can see how much the incision has changed from those first postoperative photographs.

‼️ It is important to remember that scar maturation takes time. An incision that looks noticeable in the first few weeks can continue to improve for many months. The final appearance depends on factors including individual healing, skin type, surgical technique, incision placement, and postoperative care. This is also why I encourage patients not to judge their surgical result, or their scars, too early in the recovery process.

Every patient heals differently, but seeing the progression can help give a more realistic picture of what facelift incision healing looks like over time.

Being recognized by your peers is one of the greatest compliments a surgeon can receive. I have been fortunate to be recognized by Newsweek among America’s Best Plastic Surgeons, including recognition in facelift, blepharoplasty/eyelid surgery, and rhinoplasty.

Awards and lists are only one piece of the picture, and they certainly don’t replace experience, training, or the relationship between a patient and their surgeon. But when colleagues within your specialty recognize your work, it is meaningful. I am grateful for the recognition and, more importantly, for the patients who trust me with their care.

Looking for a facial plastic surgeon? Take the time to research training, experience, and approach.

Facelift recovery is not a straight line.

This video was filmed at 3 weeks post-op, when our patient Dora was still early in her healing and her face was continuing to settle.

In Dora’s case, the procedure involved more than tightening the skin and soft tissues. She also had a deep neck lift to address significant subplatysmal fat as well as prominent submandibular glands, anatomical factors that can contribute to fullness in the upper neck and affect the definition of the jawline and neck.

These deeper structures are important when evaluating neck contour. A well-defined neck is not always achieved by addressing the skin or platysma alone; the underlying anatomy has to be considered as part of the surgical plan.

At 3 weeks, there can still be swelling, tightness, and changes in contour, and the face and neck continue to evolve considerably over the months that follow.

If you’re researching facelift surgery or wondering what recovery may look like for you, save this post and come back to it as you plan your own journey.

4 months after facial rejuvenation, and the difference is in the details.

My beautiful patient underwent a:

✅ Deep plane lower face and neck lift
✅ Temporal brow repositioning
✅ Upper blepharoplasty
✅ Upper lip lift

At 4 months, the changes are becoming much more apparent: a more defined jawline and neck, less heaviness through the lower face, a more refreshed upper eye area, and improved balance through the lips and lower face.

She is still healing, and facelift results continue to refine over time, but this is a great example of how multiple areas of the face can be addressed together to create a more balanced result.

What is the right age for a facelift? ⬇️

There isn’t one specific answer.

The youngest facelift patient I have operated on was 35, while my oldest was 80: a 45-year difference!

The 35-year-old patient was experiencing changes she wanted to address before her wedding. The 80-year-old patient was in good overall health and was an appropriate surgical candidate.

👉🏻 That doesn’t mean that everyone at 35 or 80 should have a facelift. Age alone is not what determines candidacy. I look at the patient’s anatomy, degree of skin and soft-tissue laxity, facial structure, overall health, goals, and whether surgery can create a meaningful improvement while still looking natural. The right time for a facelift is different for everyone.

If you’re wondering whether you’re too young, too old, or simply not sure if a facelift is appropriate for you, that is exactly what an individualized consultation is for.

She didn’t want a different face. She wanted to recognize her own again. ✨

At 46, Ana came to us with several changes she was noticing over time.

Her surgical plan included:

✔️ Deep plane face and neck lift: addressed laxity and descent in the lower face and neck by repositioning the deeper facial tissues. This helped reduce jowling, sharpen the jawline, and create a cleaner, more defined transition from the face into the neck.

✔️ Temporal brow repositioning: focused on the outer portion of the brow, where descent can contribute to heaviness around the upper eyelid. A subtle repositioning helped open and balance the upper third of the face while maintaining a natural brow shape.

✔️ Upper blepharoplasty: removed a conservative amount of excess upper eyelid skin to reduce hooding and heaviness around the eyes. The goal was not to dramatically change the eyes, but to create a more open, refreshed appearance while preserving her natural anatomy.

✔️ Erbium laser resurfacing to the lower eyelids: focused on the quality of the lower eyelid skin, improving texture and softening fine lines and other signs of sun-related or age-related skin changes. This complemented the structural changes made with the other procedures.

The important part is how these procedures work together. Facial rejuvenation isn’t about making one feature look different in isolation. The brow, eyelids, cheeks, lower face, and neck all influence one another. By addressing each area thoughtfully, and only where needed, the goal is a result that feels balanced, natural, and still looks like you.

Ana recently sent us a message that summed up the goal beautifully:

“Thank you for helping me recognize myself again and for giving me back a confidence I had quietly been missing for years.” 🤍

That’s what we’re aiming for.

Save this video if you’re researching facial rejuvenation, and tell us in the comments which part of the transformation stands out to you most.
