Puppy proofing reminder from the ER! 🔋
Meet Moose, a 3 month old Bernedoodle who decided the TV remote looked like a chew toy. When his family couldn’t find the two AAA batteries afterward, they did exactly the right thing, they brought him straight in.
X-rays confirmed it: two batteries sitting in his stomach.
Swallowed batteries are a true emergency. They can cause serious damage to the digestive tract, even if they don’t leak. The longer they remain inside, the greater the concern for tissue injury or obstruction.
The good news? ❤️ Our team removed both batteries using an endoscope, a camera passed through the mouth into the stomach, with no surgery and no incision!
Both batteries came out completely intact, and Moose went home the same day with medications to protect his digestive tract and a temporary bland diet.
What should you do if your pet swallows a battery (or you suspect they might have)?
✅ Don’t wait to see if it “passes.”
✅ Don’t induce vomiting at home.
✅ Seek veterinary care immediately.
Remotes, toys, key fobs, hearing aids, if it runs on batteries, keep it out of reach of curious paws!
