💙 Mental Health Matters Every Day

At Nueces Center for MHID, we believe that caring for your mental health is just as important as caring for your physical health. Whether you're facing life's challenges, supporting a loved one, or simply looking for ways to improve your well-being, remember—you are not alone.

Beginning next Monday, we'll be launching our Mental Health Monday series, where we'll share weekly tips, resources, and encouragement to help support individuals and families in our community.

Together, we can help reduce stigma, encourage conversations, and remind others that hope and help are always available.

💙 Celebrating Our PASRR Team 💙

The Preadmission Screening and Resident Review (PASRR) Program helps individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and serious mental illness receive the services and supports they need while living in nursing facilities.

At the Nueces Center for Mental Health & Intellectual Disabilities (MHID), our dedicated PASRR team works alongside individuals, families, nursing facilities, and community partners to provide person-centered support that promotes dignity, independence, and quality of life.

Every day, our PASRR team helps individuals by:
✨ Developing person-centered plans that reflect each person's goals and preferences
✨ Connecting individuals to specialized services and community resources
✨ Supporting opportunities to build skills and increase independence
✨ Assisting with transitions to community living when appropriate
✨ Advocating to ensure every individual's voice is heard

We proudly recognize our compassionate PASRR team for the difference they make every day. Their dedication, expertise, and commitment help create opportunities for hope, independence, and inclusion for the individuals and families they serve in Nueces County.

💙 Your support helps us continue providing life-changing services and empowering individuals to live with dignity, purpose, and greater independence right here in our community.

🏆 From Healing to the Winner's Circle 🐴💙

Every child deserves the opportunity to succeed—but some need additional support to get there.

Through the Youth Empowerment Services (YES) Waiver Program at the Nueces Center for Mental Health & Intellectual Disabilities (MHID), three children with serious emotional and behavioral health challenges were able to participate in equine therapy at Glenoak Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc.—a service that is not covered by insurance.

Working alongside horses, these youth developed emotional regulation, built confidence, strengthened communication skills, and learned to trust themselves and others. What began as therapy became a journey of healing, resilience, and personal growth.
That journey led to an unforgettable milestone: all three children participated in a horse show, proudly demonstrating everything they had learned. For two of the youth, the YES Waiver Program also made it possible to attend the competition—an opportunity their families otherwise could not have afforded.

🥇 One child even earned first place.

That ribbon represented much more than a win. It was a symbol of courage, perseverance, and the incredible progress that can happen when children receive the right support at the right time.

💙 Your support helps make life-changing opportunities like these possible for children and families in Nueces County.

From Goals to Reality: Vicente's Journey Continues 🚗💙

Do you remember Vicente?

Last year, we celebrated a major milestone when Vicente earned his driver's license. At the time, he shared that his next goal was to save enough money to purchase a car of his own.

Today, we're excited to share that he has achieved that goal!
Through hard work, determination, and the support of the Nueces Center for MHID Vocational Training Department (AES), Vicente saved enough money through employment to purchase his very first vehicle.

Before owning a car, Vicente walked wherever he needed to go—including work and community activities—even in difficult weather. Having reliable transportation is more than just owning a vehicle; it gives him greater independence, increased opportunities, and the freedom to travel safely to work and other important activities.
Vicente's accomplishments don't stop there. For several years, he has successfully lived independently in his own apartment with the training and support he received through the Center. His story is a wonderful example of what can happen when determination is combined with the right support and opportunities.

We are incredibly proud of everything Vicente has accomplished. From earning his driver's license to purchasing his first car, he continues to prove that goals can become reality with perseverance, hard work, and encouragement.

Congratulations, Vicente! We can't wait to see what you accomplish next. 💙
