August is National Breastfeeding Month. At New Beginnings, we remind families that every breastfeeding journey has two beginners: a baby who has never breastfed before, and a mother who has never breastfed this baby before.

Just like birth, each breastfeeding experience is unique. Whether this is your first or your fifth baby, learning each other can take time, patience, and support. Midwife Melinda is here to help you navigate those first feeds, encourage a comfortable latch, and connect you with additional lactation resources when needed.

If you’re working with a community midwife in early pregnancy, you may still need medical support for certain things along the way.

Progesterone is one example.

Some women need progesterone support in early pregnancy. It’s not for every pregnancy, and it does not prevent all miscarriage.

In Texas, a licensed midwife can’t prescribe progesterone. When it’s clinically indicated, I can work alongside your midwife to provide the order, medical oversight, and appropriate follow-up.

This doesn’t replace your midwife relationship. It supports it.

If you or your midwife need medical management alongside midwifery care, reach out. Collaborative care can be thoughtful, clear, and centered on you.

Today I want to honor the many midwives who have shaped me into the midwife I am today, especially my midwives, Shelley Terrazas and the late Debbie Fulmer, along with all those who have supported me along the way.
To each midwife and student midwife: thank you for guiding me, teaching me, encouraging me, and believing in me as I’ve grown into this calling. Each and every one of you has played a part in my learning and growth, and I carry your wisdom and example with me every day.
I am so grateful for all that you’ve poured into me. Thank you for helping shape not just my skills, but my heart as a midwife. 💕
