NO DRAINS?! There’s a reason why. 👨‍⚕️

When Dr. Vijay performs a tummy tuck, a drain isn’t simply “left out”. He uses an advanced surgical technique designed to eliminate the space where fluid would otherwise collect.

This is called progressive tension suturing. ☝️

During a traditional tummy tuck, lifting the abdominal tissue creates what surgeons call “dead space” between the tissue and the abdominal wall. That space can allow fluid to accumulate, which is one reason surgical drains are commonly used.

But, Dr. Vijay approaches it differently.

Using progressive tension sutures, he carefully secures the superficial tissue back down to the underlying re**us fascia in multiple areas. Think of it almost like closing the space from the inside out instead of relying on a drain to remove fluid afterward.

Why does that matter?
Well…
• Helps minimize the space where fluid can collect
• Reduces the risk of seroma formation
• Eliminates the discomfort and maintenance of external drains
• Recovery is much more comfortable
• Supports controlled tissue healing and positioning
• Removes a potential pathway for bacteria associated with an external drain

And this isn’t a new technique Dr. Vijay recently adopted. He has been performing advanced drainless surgery for years and in fact is the ONLY board-certified plastic surgeon in the Coastal Bend performing drainless tummy tucks using this technique.

This is what a brachioplasty can do when both loose skin & stubborn fat is the concern. 👏

This beautiful transformation by Dr. Vijay shows a noticeable improvement in the contour of the upper arms, with less hanging skin, a smoother silhouette, and a more defined shape from the shoulder to the elbow.

So, why brachioplasty instead of liposuction? Liposuction removes excess fat, but it doesn’t remove significant loose or stretched skin. An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is designed to surgically remove that excess skin and reshape the upper arm, something no amount of working out can tighten once the skin has lost enough elasticity.

And yes, an arm lift does involve a scar. The goal is to strategically place the incision while creating a trade-off many patients feel is worth it: less excess skin and a dramatically improved arm contour. (btw literally can’t even see it)
