Many believers have the wrong concept of courage. The enemy has fed us a lie that says courage means being without fear and that if we struggle with fear, then we must not be courageous enough. That is absolutely not true. All of us, even the most courageous among us, must deal with fears.

True courage means acknowledging fear, turning it over to God, and pressing ahead despite it. Courage means regarding the dream as more powerful and worthwhile than the fear that would keep us from it. Courage arises out of the security of knowing who God is and our identity in relation to Him.

By ourselves we are weak and can do nothing. But because He dwells in us, we have His power, wisdom, and courage. As we walk with Him, we understand more and more how much He loves us, and He begins to reveal His heart to us. We can take courage from these things. Courage arises from confidence in the vision the Lord has given to us; it comes from the quiet place of contemplation before the Lord where He visits us and speaks to us.

Courage comes out of resting in his strength. Courage also means taking one step at a time without demanding to know the complete journey up front. We tend to want to have everything mapped out in advance so we can know what we’re getting into before we start. God rarely works that way. He says, I’m not going to tell you what it looks like at the end. I’m only giving insight for right now. Trust Me and follow Me.

There is a reason God does this: walking one step at a time builds faith. God knows that our puny little brains can’t handle the whole picture all at once. Sometimes God speaks things to us that seem so overwhelming that we can’t see how in the world He will ever do it. Yet He pours out His grace and leads us one step at a time. We take that step and then watch for the next one. The Lord will open a doorway of grace to enable us to take the next step and the next and the next. As we walk this way, our faith grows and so does our courage.

God, thank You for who You are.

Today, help me to trust my life to You. Show me what I need to let go of and hand over to you. Remind me that no matter my situation, You are with me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Men let me tell you what makes a strong man. Talking about your thoughts, your feelings and emotions. If you were told men don’t cry well as a therapist I will stand up for you and say that is bologna. Men do cry and that is the manliest thing a man can do. If you were told suck it up, well that too is Stupid Bologna! If you have any type of emotion then tell your bros, tell your wife, tell your girl friend if not married yet. The manliest thing you can do is be real and transparent. It is important to understand affection, emotion, tears and communication.

Men it’s ok to talk it out, rather than be defensive. Allow yourself to explore what’s inside. Trust me this is the best way to communicate.

Talk it out. -Ann Marie Godines LPC 💙
