🌄 At PAM Health, we’re used to celebrating recovery after a physical injury or illness. But during National Recovery Month in September – and all year-round – we also uplift those in recovery from substance use. Recovery is not easy, but it is worth it – our patients know that all too well, and so do those in recovery from substance use.

With our partners PAM Voyages Behavioral Health, we are proud to highlight and support providers and proven treatments and reduce stigma around mental health and substance use. Learn how PAM Voyages offers support here: https://nuvi.me/sjmuna

Listen to Your Heart: AFib Awareness Month 💓

September is AFib Awareness Month. Atrial Fibrillation is the most common type of treated heart arrhythmia, which raises the risk for stroke and circulatory issues. Knowing the signs—like a fluttering heart, fatigue, or dizziness—can save lives. PAM Health’s rehabilitation programs support patients recovering from cardiac events and cardiac procedures every step of the way.

You can also learn to be prepared in the event you see someone in cardiac arrest by learning CPR. Check out our blog here: https://nuvi.me/lvbmiv

Save a Leg, Save a Life 🧦

September is PAD (peripheral artery disease) Awareness Month, and we’re proud to support the Save a Leg, Save a Life Foundation’s White Sock Campaign. PAD affects over 200 million people worldwide, and risk increases with age. If you or a loved one is dealing with a non-healing leg wound, specialized care is available. PAM Health’s Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Centers provide expert treatment options designed to heal complex wounds and prevent amputations.

💡 Show Your Support: Wear one white sock this month to represent individuals living with PAD! The campaign aims to raise awareness about disparities in access to proper diabetic footwear and individuals who have to wear bulky bandages!

Great news for stroke survivors and their families!!! For the first time in a decade, the American Stroke Association has released updated stroke recovery guidelines, including a recommendation that inpatient rehabilitation at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital is preferred over rehabilitation in a skilled nursing facility for many patients.

At PAM Health, we're proud to provide specialized stroke rehabilitation programs across the country, helping patients regain strength, independence, and confidence after stroke. We're encouraged to see these updated recommendations recognize the value of intensive, interdisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation in supporting recovery.

Yard work season is injury season.

Ladders are involved in a large share of serious fall injuries, including an estimated 43 percent of fatal falls in one national analysis (Socias et al., 2014). Three legs of contact, level ground, and a spotter are not optional. And if a summer injury has already set you back, PAM Health Outpatient Therapy can get you back to the yard the right way. ☀️

Every summer, parts of the country deal with the effects of wildfires. As drifting wildfire smoke this summer became more widespread across the United States, we wanted to share how you can protect your respiratory health in the event of poor outdoor air quality.

• Understand the different colored levels of the Air Quality Index (AQI) and the health risks for different groups of people at each level
• At unhealthy air quality levels, try to limit the amount of time you spend outdoors. If you must go outside, consider wearing a high-quality N95 or KN95 mask to help filter pollution in the air before you breathe it in.
• Preserve indoor air quality by keeping windows and doors closed on poor air quality days and using a portable air cleaner with a HEPA filter.

If you live with chronic lung conditions such as COPD or asthma, you may be at higher risk for health problems because of decreased air quality. PAM Health’s cardiopulmonary rehab program is led by expert therapists who can help you be proactive about your lung and heart health through targeted therapy, exercises, and lifestyle support.
