Back-to-school means getting back into busy routines and more time spent in shared spaces. A few simple habits can help reduce the spread of germs and support a healthy immune system.

β–ͺ️ Prioritize sleep β€” consistent, quality sleep supports immune function, focus and energy.

β–ͺ️ Stay hydrated β€” drinking enough water helps the body function at its best.

β–ͺ️ Eat balanced meals β€” fruits, vegetables, protein and whole foods provide important nutrients for growing bodies.

β–ͺ️ Wash hands often β€” especially before eating and after coughing, sneezing or using the restroom.

β–ͺ️ Cover coughs and sneezes β€” use a tissue or the inside of your elbow rather than your hands.

β–ͺ️ Keep hands away from the face β€” germs can easily enter through the eyes, nose and mouth.

β–ͺ️ Stay active β€” regular movement supports physical health, sleep and overall well-being.

And when sickness happens, we’re here when you need us!

πŸ’§ Stay Hydrated. Don't Ignore Persistent Diarrhea.

With the recent national concern surrounding Cyclospora and an increase in patients experiencing diarrheal illness locally, it's a good reminder to take dehydration seriously, especially during this extreme Texas heat.

When diarrhea is combined with excessive heat and sweating, your body can lose fluids and electrolytes quickly, increasing your risk of dehydration and heat related illness.

⚠️ If diarrhea lasts more than 3 to 4 days, or if you're experiencing dizziness, weakness, decreased urination, or difficulty staying hydrated, it's important to be evaluated by a healthcare provider as soon as possible. Early treatment can help prevent dehydration from becoming more serious.

Same day appointments may be available.

Think twice before leaving your medications in the car this summer.

A parked vehicle in the Texas heat can quickly reach temperatures well over 140Β°F, and that extreme heat can damage many medications, making them less effective or even unsafe to use.

Common medications that are especially sensitive to heat include:
πŸ’‰ Insulin
πŸ«€ Nitroglycerin
πŸ’Š Certain antibiotics
πŸ’¨ Some inhalers
πŸ’‰ Injectable medications

To help protect your medications:
βœ”οΈ Store them according to the label instructions.
βœ”οΈ Never leave them in your vehicle, even for a short time.
βœ”οΈ If you travel with medication, keep it in an insulated bag (without placing it directly on ice unless instructed).

If you're unsure whether your medication has been exposed to too much heat or you have questions about proper storage, don't hesitate to ask us.

Always here for you: (903) 874-6731

Mosquito bites are a part of summer in Texas, but sometimes they're more than just an itchy nuisance.

Most bites can be treated at home with a cold compress, anti-itch cream, or an antihistamine. However, it's time to seek medical care if you notice:

🚨 A fever or chills after being bitten
🚨 A rash spreading beyond the bite
🚨 Severe swelling, especially around the eyes or lips
🚨 Signs of infection like increasing redness, warmth, pus, or pain
🚨 Difficulty breathing or other signs of a severe allergic reaction

To help prevent mosquito bites:
βœ”οΈ Wear EPA-approved insect repellent.
βœ”οΈ Eliminate standing water around your home.
βœ”οΈ Wear long sleeves and pants when mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk.

Your health matters all summer long. If you have concerns about a mosquito bite or other symptoms, we're here to help.
