Gary Lee Guinn was born on May 16, 1945, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Marshel and Loretta Guinn. Marshel was a truck driver, and Loretta was a homemaker and waitress. The family soon moved to Byars, Oklahoma, Marshel’s hometown and home to many extended family members. Gary enjoyed growing up surrounded by cousins and his paternal grandmother, Elsie Guinn.

He was born on February 14th, 1945, in Tampa, Florida, and moved to Mildred, Texas, at the age of 7. He would call Mildred home for the remainder of his life with his grandparents, Altie and Launa Estes.
