But life isn’t waiting.

Yoga teaches Aparigraha: the practice of releasing our grip.

This week, I’ve been reflecting on how often we apply that grip to the belief that life will begin once everything falls into place.

It’s here.

In this moment.

In this breath.

We spend so much of our lives holding on.

Holding on to old stories.

Holding on to expectations.

Holding on to the belief that life will begin once everything falls into place.

But what if there’s nothing to wait for?

This week on the Hudson, I watched a bald eagle glide across the water and settle into a tree. No rush. No striving. No concern for what came next.

Just fully where it was.

The practice of yoga isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about loosening our grip long enough to experience the life that’s already here.

The sunset.
The river.
The people beside us.
The breath we’re taking right now.

While most people see a 60-minute class, they don't always see the hours spent behind the scenes learning, practicing, collaborating, and refining our craft.

This week our teaching team participated in continuing education focused on hands-on assists, alignment, communication, and ways to better support the people who trust us with their practice.

I used to wake up at 3am almost every night.

Not because anything was wrong.

My brain just wouldn’t stop.

I tried melatonin.

I tried meditation apps.

I tried no screens before bed.

I tried all the things you’re supposed to try.

And yet there I was, staring at the ceiling, mentally running through tomorrow’s to-do list.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that my problem wasn’t sleep.

My nervous system was exhausted.

I was constantly multitasking, constantly rushing, constantly carrying stress from one part of my day to the next.

Then I started showing up to yoga consistently.

The first thing I noticed wasn’t that I got stronger.

It wasn’t that I became more flexible.

It was that I started sleeping.

Really sleeping.

For years I relied on Unisom, w**d gummies and everything else because I couldn’t shut my mind off at night.

Today, I don’t.

Not because yoga is magic.

Not because one class fixed everything.

Because over time, movement taught my body how to downshift.

It taught my nervous system that it was safe to let go.

And when your body finally lets go, sleep becomes a whole lot easier.

If you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and feel like you’ve tried everything, maybe what you need isn’t another supplement.

Maybe you just need a place to breathe, move, and stop carrying the weight of the world for an hour.

That’s what Lila has been for me.

And it’s what I hope it can be for you, too. 🌿

Congratulations to Monica F., one of our lovely members, for winning our Liforme mat! 🎉

But honestly, the bigger win was watching so many members, Intro members, and students show up for themselves throughout May.

We had members hit double-digit classes.

We had members reach all 13 classes of the challenge.

We had people come on the days they didn’t feel like it.

People choose themselves after long workdays.

People carve out an hour between family obligations, school pickups, and everything else life throws at them.

That’s what this challenge was really about.

Not perfection.

Not flexibility.

Not handstands.

Consistency.

Because the people who see the biggest changes aren’t usually the people who go the hardest.

They’re the people who keep showing up.

As we head into summer, I hope you keep that momentum going.

One class.
One workout.
One hour at a time.

We’re so proud of this community. 🤍

I didn’t sign up for Yoga Teacher Training because I wanted to become a yoga teacher.

I signed up because I was curious about the philosophy.

And honestly, because I hoped it would help me become a better parent.

At the time, I was constantly thinking about what was next.

The next task.
The next responsibility.
The next thing on my to-do list.

I was spending time with my children, but I wasn’t always fully present with them.

Yoga Teacher Training gave me something I wasn’t expecting.

The philosophy discussions felt like giant therapy sessions.

They challenged the way I thought about success, happiness, attachment, presence, and how I was showing up in my own life.

They made me question why I was holding so tightly to things that weren’t bringing me joy.

They made me realize how much of life I was rushing through.

Over time, those lessons changed the trajectory of my life.

Eventually they led me to open a yoga studio.

But that’s not the point.

Your transformation doesn’t have to end with teaching yoga.

Maybe it helps you become more present.

Maybe it helps you become more confident.

Maybe it helps you reconnect with yourself.

Maybe it helps you become the parent, partner, friend, or human you want to be.

Yoga Teacher Training changed my life.

Not because it taught me how to teach.

Because it taught me how I wanted to live.
