Blue light blocking glasses are everywhere. But here's what the research actually shows: blue light from screens isn't the primary cause of digital eye strain.

The real culprits are reduced blink rate, sustained near focus, and poor lighting conditions. When you stare at a screen, you blink up to 60% less than normal. That dries out your eyes and fatigues your focusing muscles.

Blue light lenses may help some people. But if you're uncomfortable, the answer is usually a proper evaluation, not a product.

Vision deserves accuracy, not assumptions.

Diabetes is the leading cause of new blindness in working-age adults. And diabetic eye disease has no symptoms until it's advanced.

High blood sugar damages the tiny blood vessels in your retina. Over time, they leak, swell, or grow abnormally, causing diabetic retinopathy that can progress to vision loss without any warning signs.

If you have diabetes or prediabetes, an annual dilated eye exam isn't optional. It's essential.

We work alongside your primary care team to monitor retinal health and catch changes early, when treatment is most effective.

Age-related macular degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss in adults over 50 in the U.S. And most people don't think about it until it's already progressing.

The macula is responsible for your central vision, reading, recognizing faces, driving. When it deteriorates, those abilities go with it.

The good news: lifestyle factors matter. UV protection, nutrition, not smoking, and regular monitoring all influence your risk and progression rate.

We track macular health at every comprehensive exam. Because protecting your central vision starts long before symptoms appear.

Glaucoma has no symptoms in its early stages. No pain. No blurred vision. No warning.

By the time most people notice something is wrong, significant peripheral vision has already been lost, and that damage is permanent.

This is exactly why we monitor optic nerve health and eye pressure at every comprehensive exam. Not because we expect to find something, but because catching it early is the only way to protect what you have.

Glaucoma is manageable when detected early. It's devastating when it isn't.

If you've been told you can't wear contact lenses, or if standard lenses have never been comfortable, scleral lenses may change that.

Scleral lenses vault over the entire cornea and rest on the white of the eye, creating a fluid reservoir that keeps the ocular surface hydrated all day. They're transformative for irregular corneas, severe dry eye, and patients who've failed with every other lens type.

Not every optometrist fits them. We do.

If contacts have never worked for you, it's worth a conversation.

Summer heat, air conditioning, and increased outdoor time create the perfect storm for dry eye flare-ups.

AC pulls moisture from the air. Heat increases tear evaporation. Wind and UV exposure stress the ocular surface. And if your meibomian glands are already compromised, summer conditions accelerate the breakdown.

If your eyes feel worse in summer than any other season, that's not a coincidence. It's a pattern worth addressing.

We don't just treat symptoms. We identify the structural cause and build a treatment plan around it.

Fireworks are one of the leading causes of serious eye injuries every year in the U.S., and most happen to bystanders, not the people lighting them.

Even sparklers burn at over 1,800°F. Debris, sparks, and misfires can cause corneal burns, retinal damage, and in severe cases, permanent vision loss.

If you're celebrating this Fourth of July, keep a safe distance, wear protective eyewear near any fireworks, and know that we offer same-day emergency care if something goes wrong.

Enjoy the holiday. Protect your vision while you do.

Don't wear contact lenses in the pool, ocean, or hot tub. Ever.

Water contains microorganisms that attach to contact lenses and cause serious infections, including Acanthamoeba keratitis, which can lead to permanent vision loss. Chlorine doesn't kill these organisms. And once they're on your lens, they're against your cornea.

If you need vision correction for swimming, we have solutions: prescription swim goggles, daily disposable lenses you remove immediately after, or LASIK consultations.

Today marks the first day of summer, and UV exposure is now at its annual peak.

June through August delivers the most intense UV radiation of the year. Every hour outdoors without proper eye protection adds to your lifetime cumulative damage, increasing risk for cataracts, macular degeneration, and corneal issues.

UV protection isn't seasonal. But summer demands extra attention.

Make sure your sunglasses block 100% of UVA and UVB rays. If you're not sure, bring them in and we'll test them.

Did you know myopia doesn't just blur your child's vision, it can keep getting worse as they grow?

Stellest lenses by Essilor are designed to do two things: correct your child's vision AND slow myopia progression. They work by targeting eye elongation, the main reason nearsightedness worsens in kids.

It's not just about seeing clearly today. It's about protecting their eyes for the long run.

Curious if Stellest lenses are right for your child? Come in and we'll walk you through it.
