A couple of weeks ago I had the amazing opportunity to dust off my musical theater roots ( theater was my first love. I literally left my theater scholarship to go into medicine, much to my parents dismay) … and perform a song and dance with my daughter at the Regency International competition in Houston. It has been at least 10 years since I have performed and to do this with my daughter Alyssa Gauss was everything

In life, in parenting, in motherhood, social media…there are going to always be people that try to steal your light, beat you down, and make you feel bad about yourself…if there is one thing I have learned this year is to not hide behind fear, to be honest, yourself, and realize you are going to make mistakes. It is in the grave that there is hope and freedom!! Don’t let them steal your light…you shine to bright for that!!

The best way to increase your milk supply is by frequently removing the milk from your breast. I know it seems backwards, but the way the science behind milk production is, it truly can be that simple. However, there are many reasons a supply can be low. The fastest most efficient way is to feed often, pump if needed, and get help from an IBCLC. If your supply is low there is always a reason. We can guide you. In the meantime, quality vs quantity. Quality milk removal will create more quantity. You got this!!!

Over this last week, I had the amazing opportunity to speak about trauma informed care, and being the voice for the voiceless. My passion is to educate others, specifically medical professionals, on the importance of asking for consent prior to any exam or procedure. We say an oath of “first do no harm” yet so many medical professionals do more harm by unintentionally triggering trauma leaving the patient with longer lingering effects. One question can change all of that. This isn’t something we learn in a text book, but it can be the foundation for change in healthcare moving forward. If you would like to learn more, DM me and we can talk. Currently booking speaking engagements for 2026-2027

Trauma informed care is not taught in medicine, it is learned from experience, but without realizing it, medical professionals can hurt more than heal if they don’t ask for consent. This is a training I offer, and travel to speak on. If you need support I am here for you. But healthcare workers listen up! We have the responsibility to first do no harm. That’s where this comes in. Explain what you are doing, you never know that person’s story.

I was asked to give 3 words that describe myself, and so I asked my kids to describe me. Getting to hear that they see me as someone who advocates, nurtures and loves brought me to tears, because if there is one thing I hope to accomplish in this life, is advocating and fighting for those whose voice can not be heard. It is always such an honor to speak and educate on behalf of survivors or assault and educate on trauma informed care. When one takes time to listen, be empathetic, show grace, we do more than we learn in a textbook, we give people the strength, confidence and trust they deserve. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey

This new mom wanted to celebrate her anniversary with her husband at a spa resort. She brought in her breast pump so she could pump while there and planned to store the pumped milk in a cooler safely in their locker room. The manager of the spa told her they wouldn’t allow that and she would have to store the milk in her car, and had to pump in her car because that wasn’t allowed in the spa, despite it being 95 degrees outside. This completely violates her rights and breaks Texas laws that are in support of breastfeeding and pumping moms. We need to do better!
