🌕🌾 A GOLDEN NIGHT IS COMING — THE HARVEST FULL MOON RETURNS SEPTEMBER 26!
As September draws toward its final days, one of the season’s most iconic sights will rise into the evening sky. On September 26, 2026, the Harvest Full Moon will reach its full phase, bringing a brilliant lunar display to the transition into autumn. 🍂✨
The name Harvest Moon has deep roots. It traditionally refers to the full moon occurring closest to the September equinox. Around this period, especially at mid-to-high northern latitudes, the delay between successive evening moonrises can be shorter than at other times of year. Before electric lighting, those bright evenings provided valuable extra light for farmers gathering crops after sunset. 🌾🌙
Watch the Moon when it first appears near the horizon. That’s when the show can be especially beautiful. 🌕🔥 Passing through a thicker layer of Earth’s atmosphere can give moonlight a striking yellow, amber or orange appearance, while foreground objects such as mountains, trees and buildings can make the lunar disk seem enormous.
Despite its dramatic name, the Harvest Moon isn’t a special type of Moon physically — it’s the same lunar world we see throughout the year. What makes it special is its timing, seasonal tradition and distinctive series of evening moonrises.
So mark September 26 on your calendar. Find an open horizon, arrive around moonrise and watch the Harvest Full Moon climb from a warm golden glow into the darker autumn sky. 🌕🍂✨
