In the Yoga Sutras (II.33), Patanjali introduces the practice of Pratipaksha Bhavana, which encourages us to consciously shift our mindset. When negative thoughts arise, we can intentionally choose thoughts that are uplifting, compassionate, or positive instead.

This simple practice can help us reconnect with joy, even on difficult days.
If you're caught in a cycle of negative thinking, try doing something that naturally lifts your spirit. Spend time with people you love, take a walk in nature, read something inspiring, practice yoga, or do anything that helps you shift your perspective.

Today, notice when a negative thought appears. Pause, take a breath, and see if you can gently replace it with one that brings a little more peace or joy.

If you try this practice, let us know how it goes! โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ

This week, we are here to RADIATE! โœจ

Being mindful means being present and making conscious choices. For todayโ€™s , letโ€™s intentionally spread and radiate joy by sharing our gifts, kindness, and light with the world. It could be as simple as offering a smile that brightens someoneโ€™s day or making a bigger gesture that creates a ripple of positivity.

No matter how you choose to show up, let yourself SHINE! Together, we can create a beautiful domino effect of JOY. โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ

๐Ÿช Letโ€™s get ready for Camel Pose!

Here are a few prep poses you can add to your regular practice to help open the chest, strengthen the back body, and prepare for our Pose of the Month: Ustrasana (Camel Pose)!

โœจ Anjaneyasana (Low Crescent Lunge)
You may already practice this in your Sun Salutation variations. Step one foot back, extending the leg, and bring the top of the foot to the mat. Bend the front knee, stacking it over the ankle. Engage your core, lengthen your tailbone toward the floor, and lift your chest. Reach your arms overhead, clasp your hands behind your back, or take cactus arms to encourage a gentle backbend and chest opening.

๐Ÿ’› Remember: never force yourself into a position. Ease into the stretch and honor your body.

โœจ Salamba Bhujangasana (Sphinx Pose)
Lie on your belly and prop yourself up on your forearms with your elbows under your shoulders. Imagine gently dragging the mat toward you to draw your shoulders back and broaden your chest. Keep your gaze slightly in front of your hands so the back of your neck stays long, and press the tops of your feet into the mat.

โœจ Uttana Shishosana (Puppy Pose)
From a tabletop or high kneeling position, walk your hands forward and begin melting your chest toward the floor while keeping your hips stacked over your knees. If your shoulders feel pinchy, widen your hands a bit.
๐Ÿ’› This pose is also known as Anahatasana, or Heart-Melting Pose.

โœจ Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)
Lie on your belly with your hands beside your lower ribs. Draw your shoulders back and down as you press your chest up into a gentle backbend. Keep pressing the tops of your feet into the mat. If it feels comfortable, let your gaze lift slightly while keeping length through the neck.

โœจ Dhanurasana (Bow Pose)
Lie on your belly, bend your knees, and reach back for your ankles or feet. Keep your knees about hip-width apart or as close together as feels comfortable. As you inhale, press your feet into your hands to lift your chest and thighs. Feel your heart opening as you breathe. If it feels good, let your head gently tip back, imagine the crown of your head reaching toward your feet. ๐Ÿ˜Š And yes... soften your face.

These poses will help prepare your body for next week's Pose of the Month: Ustrasana (Camel Pose)! I can't wait to practice it with you. โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ

The Anahata Chakra, or Heart Chakra, is the center of love, compassion, and connection. As we move through our month of radiating joy, we are reminded that an open heart creates space for belonging, both within ourselves and our community.

Through our practice, we soften, breathe, and release what no longer serves us so we can give and receive love more freely. May your practice today help you reconnect with your heart and carry that joy into every interaction.

How will you open your heart today? โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ

As we continue our theme of radiating joy this week, letโ€™s do so by celebrating relationships, community, and belonging.

Take a moment today to appreciate the people who make you feel seen, supported, and connected. Joy grows when it's shared, and even the smallest act of kindness can strengthen the sense of belonging around us.

How will you radiate joy this week? โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ

Question for my yin & yoga nidra loving local yogis:
If I held one of these events this summer/fall, likely August or September, would you prefer a weekday evening or a Sunday late morning/early afternoon?

Would love your feedback to help me plan. โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ•‰

โœจ Mindfulness Monday โœจ

This week, letโ€™s embrace play & possibility!

Joy grows when we let go of perfection and make room for play. This week, embrace curiosity, try something new, laugh often, and allow yourself to explore without worrying about getting it right.

Reflection: Where can you choose play over perfection this week? โœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ

Our pose of the month is one that helps us to physically open the chest and the heart (and potentially make some of us moan ๐Ÿ˜‰): ustrasana/camel pose!

Ustra = camel
Asana = Pose

This powerful pose also strengthens the back, improves mobility in the spine, and stretches the abdominal muscles, quadriceps, thorax and ankles. All this stretching and strengthening makes us feel strong & soft at the same time, allowing us to RADIATE JOY!

Stay tuned for ways to ease into this pose (it can be intense, so donโ€™t rush into it!) in the coming daysโ€ฆโœŒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ
