We walked through the front door this week — the red one, against the Marine Blue — and for the first time it didn't feel like a job site.

It felt like ours.

The kitchen island is in. The counters are exactly what I pictured when we picked them last fall. The double barn doors fill the hallway with light when the sun hits them just right.

We close in weeks.

I've been sitting with that phrase all day. We close in weeks.

A year of decisions, conversations, compromises, and choices made together — and now we're almost on the other side of it.

Jeff and I have said more times than I can count over the last year: this process will either bring you closer or pull you apart.

We chose closer. Intentionally. Every step.

That's actually what I help couples do — not just in a build, but in a life. The big transitions, the small negotiations, the moments where you have to decide who you want to be together on the other side of change.

A few weeks ago I introduced myself to this community. I wasn't sure what to expect.

What happened next genuinely moved me.

The comments, the messages, the warm welcomes from people I hadn't met yet — neighbors who took a moment out of their day to make a newcomer feel seen. That's not something I take for granted.

I moved my practice to the Cottleville Synergy Center because I believed this was the kind of community where people show up for each other. You confirmed that in ways I didn't anticipate.

What I do — sitting with couples and individuals in some of their hardest moments — requires trust. And trust starts with community. You've already given me that.

I just wanted to say thank you. I don't take it lightly. I'm glad to be here.

My husband Jeff and I were sitting by the fire recently, talking about what comes next.

I want to introduce myself to this community — not just as a new business, but as a future neighbor.

My husband and I are building our home at Cottleville Trails right now. So when I opened my practice at the Cottleville Synergy Center this April, I wasn't just planting a professional flag — I was coming home.

I'm Betty Baumann — a marriage counselor and individual therapist with 26 years of clinical experience. I specialize in the Gottman Method, and I want to share something about that credential that most people don't know.

Over 135,000 therapists worldwide have taken some level of Gottman training. Fewer than 1% ever pursue full Gottman Certification. I'm one of them — currently working through that process, having already completed all three levels of clinical training.
