What a colorful and musical week in Nature Explorers! 🎶🌈

For week 2 of our Nature Explorers summer series, we tuned in to the sounds all around us during a nature sound scavenger hunt before discovering that music can be made almost anywhere. Then, using everyday objects and treasures from nature, we experimented, collaborated, and created our own unique sounds and instruments.

Later in the week, we became color collectors, searching for vibrant hues all around our outdoor space. Then, we rubbed, mashed and squished our found treasures (berries, carrots, purple cabbage) to extract their natural pigments to use as paint. We also experimented with wood mallets and fresh blooms, to create our own nature prints to take home.

✨ Couldn’t join us this summer? Fall programs are open for enrollment and filling up—grab your spot now and meet us outside in September for even more fun!

🍂 Fall is in our future, and registration is officially open!

This next season, Rooted In Play is offering four ways for children to explore, create, connect, and discover outdoors:

Week one of Nature Explorers is in the books, and we kicked off our summer sensory adventures with some of our favorite materials! 🤎💦

For day one, we explored our sense of touch and tried to figure out our “mud mindsets”—a set of various ways that each person might approach mud play. Some of us jumped right in, while others chose a scoop, a tool, or a little more time to observe. We practiced tuning into our unique “sensory cups” and finding ways to explore that felt good to us.

Then for day two, we followed our noses through the woods, in search of some hidden bundles of fragrant herbs and flowers before creating our own nature perfumes. 🌸

Summer is just getting started here, and there’s still time to join us for more outdoor sensory exploration, messy play, and nature-based discovery!

Our tiniest explorers had the sweetest start to summer! ☀️

In week one of Summer Nature Babies, we explored bubbles and taste-safe frozen chalk—two simple invitations that encouraged big discoveries. From watching bubbles float and pop to feeling the cool, colorful chalk melt and transform, our little ones practiced observing, reaching, experimenting, and exploring through their senses. 🫧🎨

Nature Babies is all about slowing down, following your baby’s curiosity, and discovering the wonder of the natural world together.

There’s still time to join us this summer for more gentle sensory play, outdoor exploration, and connection with your little one. 🌿

✨ Nature Babies is designed for ages 6–24 months with a caregiver.

Have you heard of the 3 B’s of creativity? 🧠✨

Breaking, blending, and bending—basically all the things kids naturally do when we let them just play. (This intriguing framework comes from the book, The Runaway Species by David Eagleman and Anthony Brandt.)

Once you start noticing it, you see it everywhere—taking things apart, mixing random materials together, molding things into something totally new.

We’ve been exploring each of the 3 B’s in Nature Explorers this spring, and honestly… the ideas the kids come up with are the best part. 💛
