New Roads Behavioral Health is a treatment center providing therapeutic recovery programs for adults affected by complex mental health disorders and substance abuse. Our team of experienced professionals specialize in finding individualized care for clients. New Roads offers three specialized programs:

PaTH : Residential program for men offering substance abuse counseling and dual diagnosis. WorT

New Roads Hits the Field with Sober Softball

This season, New Roads Behavioral Health is proudly participating in a local sober softball league—bringing together staff, alumni and community members for connection, fun, and a life worth living in action.

More than just a game, sober softball creates a space where individuals can build healthy relationships, practice teamwork, and experience joy without substances. Whether it’s a big hit, a missed catch, or plenty of laughs in the dugout, every moment reinforces that recovery can be engaging, social, and meaningful.

We’ve loved seeing the encouragement, camaraderie, and resilience displayed on and off the field. Events like this are a powerful reminder that healing happens in community—and sometimes, it even happens under the lights with a glove and a bat.

Upcoming Training Announcement: Utah Mental Health Supervisor Certification

New Roads Behavioral Health is excited to announce an upcoming training led by our CEO, Eric Schmidt, designed to meet the requirements for attaining approved mental health supervisor status in the state of Utah.

This comprehensive, one-day training will provide clinicians with the tools, knowledge, and qualifications needed to step into supervisory roles and support the next generation of mental health professionals.

Training Details:

Date: Friday, August 14th

Time: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

With over 35 years of experience in behavioral health and credentials as a Linehan Board–certified DBT clinician, Eric brings a wealth of knowledge and practical insight to this training. Attendees will gain valuable understanding in areas such as ethical and legal responsibilities, effective supervision strategies, and fostering clinician growth while maintaining high standards of care.

As Utah continues to expand access to behavioral health services, the need for qualified and well-trained supervisors is critical. Celebrating Nicole Shaw’s Beautiful New Chapter

Conference Highlight: Matt Borget at the 2026 Uintah Basin Mental Health Conference

Matt Borget presented at the 2026 Uintah Basin Mental Health Conference on “Admits vs. Ethics: Breaking Down Barriers Between Clinical and Business Development.”

His session focused on balancing clinical decision-making and business development, highlighting the importance of maintaining ethical integrity while supporting access to care. He discussed common points of tension between admissions processes and clinical teams, and shared strategies for improving collaboration and keeping patient care at the center of organizational decisions.

The presentation was well received and offered practical insight for bridging the gap between clinical priorities and operational needs in behavioral health settings.

Advocating for Mental Health: Eric Schmidt in Washington, D.C.

This past month, Eric Schmidt traveled to Washington, D.C. to take part in critical conversations with policymakers, continuing his long-standing commitment to improving access to mental health care.

While in the nation’s capital, Eric met with legislators and policy influencers to advocate for expanded Medicaid coverage and increased access to treatment for individuals facing serious mental health and substance use challenges. Representing both New Roads Behavioral Health and the broader community of providers, he emphasized the urgent need for sustainable funding and policy support to ensure that vulnerable populations are not left without care.

Throughout his meetings, Eric shared firsthand insights from the work being done at New Roads—highlighting the complex needs of Medicaid patients and the life-saving impact that comprehensive, evidence-based treatment can provide. He also underscored the growing demand for services and the barriers many individuals face when trying to access appropriate care.

Eric’s advocacy reflects the heart of New Roads’ mission: to serve those who need it most, regardless of financial circumstances.
