Bodhi played great in his soccer game despite still having a cough. They won and he had a beautiful assist stealing the ball and making a great pass.

Andy came to check on us yesterday, and we took the dogs up Ferguson. They were very happy and it always makes me feel good too. I found a lovely piece of moss on the trail that felt healing to me so I brought it back along with a few red maple leaves. The colors are just starting to change. I added them to the Bonsai tree.

Grandma, Mindy, and my brother Brent came to the soccer game. It is great to have the love and support. Brent came with us to a cute New York style pizza place with live jazz artist that was fun.

Bodhi’s friend Ashton spent the night and we are planning to hit some golf balls today.

The Chilean government has finally finished their paperwork and we are moving along in the process to get the body back. It is quite the process. We plan to have it cremated down there and will have a ceremony. My friend Pachi and her mom will be there, and Pachi will bring Todd back for us.

There is but one thing to do in my mind, which is to keep moving forward One step at a time. I finally slept a bit longer this morning.🙏🏽

Sometimes Bodhi and I read through all the donors here on Go Fund me and we get filled with love and awe. It just blows us away. Many thanks to you all.

Love and light to you.

I feel like a fish out of water. Flopping on the sand trying to find my way home.

In 2000 in Switzerland, Todd fell into a crevasse. I tried to rush around to set an anchor and fell in too. Down in there I thought we were dead. I wasn’t afraid of dying because I thought we’d be together and the afterlife would be peaceful. Then I thought of our families and felt guilty for the pain we’d cause them.

We got lucky. The clouds parted for a moment and someone saw two little dots disappear. They went for help. We got a second chance. After that, life felt so precious and time moved slowly. Later, I realized I was afraid of dying. Which meant I was afraid of living. I can’t escape death in this lifetime, and I can’t save my loved ones from grief.

I feel that fear now. Afraid of dying. Afraid of putting Bodhi through this again. He’s afraid of me dying and doesn’t want me to go into the mountains. Tears roll down my cheeks. I feel like I have no rudder.

I’m lost at sea with no anchor. Karen, Todd’s mom, lost her husband when Todd was 4 and carried on with 4 kids. She says to move slow. My dad died when I was 14, and my mom had to navigate with 3 kids. My sister was 18 and kept us afloat.

I know I’m not alone. You are all anchoring me right now. Thank you.

Tonight at 1:18am I can’t sleep. It feels like when I rescued a friend in an avalanche — I couldn’t sleep until I cried and wrote.

Bodhi and I tell Todd every night that we love him. Tonight he said, “I love you mom, and I love you dad.” We hugged and imagined one of our family hugs.

Todd and I used to say, “I’ll meet you in my dreams,” and pick a special place. Last night we told Todd we’d meet him in the Wind River Range, where we went 3 times together.

Maybe after this cry, we’ll meet there as a family in my dreams. Todd Passey

Yesterday, Our friends, Tony and Nadene drove two days straight from Washington to stay with us — it means so much to have them here.

Bodhi had a good day Friday. Several friends came for a sleepover and the house was bustling with laughter and playing. It was great to hear.

Saturday he had a soccer game with a big support crew — his friends, Todd’s family, Tony and Nadene. We celebrated with MOD Pizza after. Then friends took him to the RSL game last night and he had a blast. He ended the day crying himself to sleep in my arms. We told Todd how much we love and miss him.

While Bodhi was at his game, Tony and I hiked Ferguson with the dogs and caught a beautiful sunset. An owl chatted with us the whole way down in the low light. I like to think it was Todd. I believe energy is neither created nor destroyed — we exist before and after this body — and I feel him with me. Just pure love, no pettiness.

Today Tony and Nadene helped me organize the garage, we hiked Ferguson again, and he read a beautiful poem about how when someone close passes, your whole life and future plans shift. It felt so true.

My brother and Alicia are coming for dinner tonight. I’m grateful — I know I’m not alone.

We unloaded the truck from the memorial yesterday — if you’re missing something, come by. ♥️🫶🙏🏽

Last night we went to a Celebration of Life for my second cousin who passed away just four days after Todd. It was so beautiful. He and Todd were alike in many ways, in their love for the mountains and in how many lives they touched.

It was outside at Timpanogos Park, and at the beginning of the ceremony the sun lit up the mountains with a gorgeous glow, and then pink clouds filled the sky. It was so spiritual and moving.

We hadn’t yet met his wife and kids, and it was beautiful to finally connect with them. The kids are 11 and 13. Bodhi really wanted to meet them, and when he did he was lit up with joy. They were so sweet and welcoming. Adelaide pulled Bodhi in for a big, tight squeeze and said she was sorry for his loss too, and that they could be grieving buddies together. He felt love pouring out from her. It was so moving and I thought, “I want to be like Adelaide.”

I saw in Stacey, Pierce’s wife, the familiar pain of loss and my heart goes out to her.

Somehow a sense of peace is finding its way into Bodhi and me. We have felt so much love pouring in from family and friends. I feel Todd’s presence and comfort wrapping around me.

I pray to God to help us absorb all the love coming in so we can radiate it back out to the world like Adelaide and Jackson. They both spoke about their dad last night, about how much they miss him and how he taught them so much and how he was their best friend. I know Bodhi feels the same way. It was important for him to connect with them last night and I am so glad he did. We hope to spend more time with them, and with all of our beautiful Thiot cousins, in time to come.

Grief like this really helps us remember what is important in life. Over the last handful of years, I have lost several friends who died in the mountains, and several friends who had close calls, and that helped us to reframe and check in with what really matters. I’m so glad that we took the time this summer to have so many family trips, to go bowling, and just be together. Now it seems even more important to spend time with friends and family and remember that the little things we often argue about are just not worth it in the big picture.

Hi friends.

Yesterday we headed up Ferguson Canyon with the dogs and placed some rocks for Todd along the way. We also placed some up at Lisa Falls the other day. Even the dogs seem to be missing him. The other day when I was getting a little teary-eyed, Thelma, one of our dogs, brought me a stuffy and placed it right at my feet. It was so sweet. She knows we’re going through a lot.

Today Bodhi made it all the way through the school day. He said he did okay — that he almost cried a couple times — but when he needed to, he went to the counselor’s office and hung out in the wellness room for a while when he was upset. I’m so proud of him for getting up and going and making that happen.

Now we’re headed to the cactus and tropicals store to pick out a tree for Todd. Some of our friends gave us a gift card last night to put toward it.

Thank you for continuing to hold us up.

We will be holding a Celebration of Life for Todd on *October 10th, from 4pm to dusk* in a park where we will be planting a tree for him. More details on the exact location to come, but I wanted to get the word out now so people can plan.

The next morning, for those who want to join, we’ll be doing a hike up to Wolverine Peak near Alta.

I don’t know how I would survive this without all the love and support that has flowed into our lives. I just really don’t want this to be our reality, and I keep wishing Todd would just come home. We are moving through it all with as much grace as possible.

Bodhi is taking baby steps. On Monday he made it through half a class and then called me in tears. My mom and I went to get him, and we spent an hour with his school counselor. She is amazing, and he feels peace knowing he can go to her anytime.

The next day he went to his friend Ashton’s house for breakfast and they walked to school together. He made it through two hours, spent some time with the counselor, and I picked him up around 10.

We spent the afternoon hitting golf balls with my mom and brother before his soccer game. It was the first game of a tournament and they crushed it — 3 to 1. Bodhi had both grandmas at the game, two aunts — Mindy and Cherry — and his cousin-in-law Lolo, and of course me, all there to support him. We all spent time together after.

Today I just want to hug and snuggle him and read through the Kudoboard with him — all the photos and stories from you all.

Thank you for your love and support. It means everything to us.

You went Canyon hearing with Lynn, and Natasha, Leo, and Milo. And Todd carried the boys across so they didn’t have to get their feet wet. This just is so special and exemplifies who Todd was. The love and support we’ve received in this heartbreak has been so powerful. Thank you for your kind words, your love, your donations, and for just being here with us.

Bodhi and I will get through this because we have you.

Todd was a trailblazer and a guide to everyone. He taught so many of us how to ski, climb, canyoneer, and rappel — how to do things we didn’t think we could do. He taught me to trust myself, to have fun, and to be a better person. I could always count on honest feedback from Todd, whether I wanted to hear it or not. Haha.

Everything he did was to support us. Bodhi is so much like him — a rebel, creative, adventurous, with the kindest, sweetest heart and soul.

If you have stories, photos, or memories, please share them here. They will be part of the memorial this evening. We will have another celebration of life, likely in October.
