This beautiful monument stands on the grounds of Cannon Mortuary as a tribute to Don’s and Jackie’s parents and all members of “The Greatest Generation.” We thank and honor you all for your service and sacrifice.

“The Greatest Generation - This phrase has been coined to honor the heroes of World War II. Men and women on the front and at home preserved our freedom, thus blessing generations to come. We honor the members of this community who are numbered among this noble group. Dr. and Mrs. W. Lester Cannon and Mr. and Mrs. Marshall G. Ericson, Jr., are examples of the selfless love and sacrifice common to this generation.”

Grief isn’t only about the day they left…
It’s about all the days after.

The mornings you wake up and remember all over again.
The afternoons when something reminds you of them
and knocks the wind out of you.
The nights that feel too quiet because
their voice isn’t there.

It’s not one loss…it’s thousands of little losses
scattered through everyday life.
And each one carries its own ache.

So if you wonder why grief feels endless…
it’s because love was endless.
And love this deep doesn’t disappear -
it lingers, it echoes, it stays.

What can you do with cremated remains? Cremated remains may be buried in a cemetery or placed in a niche to provide a permanent memorialization for family and friends to gather and pay tribute to the deceased.

Cremated remains may also be scattered, kept at home in an urn, divided among loved ones in keepsake-sized mementos, or placed inside cremation jewelry.

Maintaining a positive outlook during the grieving process can be extremely difficult, but grief experts agree that focusing on small, positive activities during the day can make a big difference. For example, preparing a nourishing meal or taking a walk in a beautiful location can enhance our mood.

Positive activities beget positivity, and our outlook will begin to brighten as we continue to deal with the loss of our loved one.

In addition, choosing a mantra to repeat can help our thoughts move in a positive direction. Examples include:

- I allow myself to grieve with an open and light heart.
- I honor my sadness without letting it define me.
- Moments of peace, gratitude, and even joy are welcome here.
- I do not betray my grief when I smile, laugh, or feel hope.
- My heart is strong enough to hold both sorrow and light.
- Today, I choose softness, compassion, and grace for myself.
- I carry my grief with gentleness and my love with gratitude.
- I honor what I have lost while remaining open to the light that still surrounds me.

It’s a common misconception that choosing cremation means choosing not to hold a service. On the contrary, when planning for cremation, don’t skip the service.

A full funeral service may be held prior to cremation with the body present in a casket. A memorial service or celebration of life may also be held prior to or after cremation.

Services channel broad community support, allowing friends and neighbors the opportunity to pay their respects to the deceased and to the family.
