Today’s KARE Permission Slip✍️🩵

We spend so much of our lives trying to manage other people’s feelings, fix situations we didn’t create, and carry burdens that were never ours to begin with.

Maybe this week, the permission you need isn’t to do more. Maybe it’s to let go⛓️‍💥

Which line on today’s KARE Permission Slip resonates with you the most?💭

Save this post for the days when you need a reminder that your mental health matters, too❣️

Maybe it’s time we redefine what strength looks like.

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month and PTSD Awareness Month. Strength isn’t carrying every burden alone. Strength is having the courage to ask for help when you need it.

New month. Same you.
And that is not a bad thing.

We often put pressure on ourselves to become a completely different person when the calendar changes.

But growth does not always look like starting over.

Sometimes it looks like continuing to show up.
Learning from what worked. Adjusting what did not.
And giving yourself credit for how far you have already come.

A new month is not always about becoming someone new. Sometimes it is about becoming more of who you already are.

At KARE Counseling, we believe growth is not about becoming a different person. It is about creating space for reflection, awareness, and meaningful change that helps you become a healthier, more authentic version of the person you have always been 💭🤍

In many small towns, people often know your family, your history, and where you came from. Yet very few know the full story of what you’ve experienced, overcome, or become.

Sometimes that sense of connection feels supportive.

Sometimes it can feel like there are expectations about who you should be and how you should live.

As people grow, pursue education, seek help, set boundaries, or work toward personal goals, they may worry that others will see them differently.

But growth is not rejection.

Growth is not forgetting your roots.

Growth is not thinking you’re better than anyone else.

Growth is simply choosing to learn, heal, and become the healthiest version of yourself.

Sometimes the pressure comes from things others have said. Other times, it comes from the stories we tell ourselves about what might be said.

Either way, that fear can keep us from speaking up, trying something new, sharing our ideas, or allowing ourselves to be seen as we truly are.

💡Mental Health Reminder:
You can appreciate where you came from while still creating a different future for yourself.

You do not have to make yourself smaller to help others feel comfortable.

You are allowed to grow, change, and evolve.

The people who genuinely care about you will not be threatened by your healing, your learning, or your success.📝

💬 Reflection Question: What’s one thing you’re learning to stop apologizing for?

Examples:
• Expressing my feelings
• Taking up space
• Setting boundaries
• Saying no
• Having different goals
• Protecting my peace
• Outgrowing old patterns
• Asking for help
• Being myself
• Not explaining every decision I make

A word, phrase, or short sentence is welcome.

Willingness Wednesday💭

Sometimes people wait to feel fully ready before making a change.

At time, confidence is built through the process of growth.

It starts with the willingness to reflect, try something different, or become more open to a new perspective.✨

Growth can feel uncomfortable at times, but willingness creates space for change to begin 🤍

Willingness Tip:
You do not have to have everything figured out to take a small step forward.

I’m curious how people see this 💭

When you think about therapy (counseling), what do you think it is supposed to help with?

A. Getting advice or being told what to do
B. Having a space to talk things out
C. Learning ways to cope with stress or emotions
D. Understanding yourself on a deeper level
E. A mix of talking, coping skills, and self-understanding, with some guidance but not always direct advice

There is no right or wrong answer. I am genuinely curious how people view it.🤍

Reminder: Everyone’s view of therapy can look a little different depending on where they are in their own experiences, and that is completely okay.

I will share a follow-up comment with some general insight on this as well.🩵

Not gonna lie…
a lot of us were taught to keep things to ourselves.🤫

As a counselor and just as someone from this community, I see it all the time.

We hear things like:
• “La familia es familia”
• “Dios por delante”
• “No necesitas ayuda”
• “No estás loco/a”
• “Estás/Eres chiflado/a”
• “Te hace falta una chinga”
• “Hay gente que tiene problemas más grandes”

And while some of that may be true,
your experience still matters.

What you go through can’t be compared to someone else’s story.
We all experience life differently, and that’s the beauty of being unique.

I share this because it doesn’t just create silence, it creates guilt.
It makes you question yourself.
It teaches you to minimize your pain.
And over time, you stop knowing how to even put your feelings into words.

It doesn’t just stay in your thoughts either.
It shows up in your body.
In the tension, the stress, the exhaustion, the feeling of always being on edge.

What we’re taught shapes how we think, feel, and respond. 🧠

But not everyone is ready to seek help.
Sometimes out of fear, sometimes because change feels unfamiliar. 🫣

But we’re not meant to stay stuck.
We’re meant to grow and evolve.🪴

And that takes patience, persistence, determination, and courage.

YOU, yes you reading this,
it’s okay to get the support you need.

There is strength in you.
Strength to grow emotionally, mentally, and physically. Strength to interrupt patterns that may have been passed down for generations.⛓️‍💥

You have a choice.

You can grow, evolve, and still stay true to your beliefs. You can respect where you come from and still choose something different.

This isn’t about blaming your family, your culture, or yourself.

It’s about learning who you are,
and allowing change to be something good.

Choose to take KARE of both your physical and MENTAL health.

Reach out to a counselor who will challenge you.
Who will KARE to advocate for you while also providing you with the skills to advocate for yourself. Who will not judge you, but take the time to truly understand you.🤍

When you are ready, reach out.
Support is here.
