I’m here to tell you, you don’t have to feel stiff, sore, and worn down every day just "getting through it.”

A lot of people come into my office after trying everything they could think of first. Stretching. Rest. New pillows. Massage. Medication. Exercises they found online. Some helped for a little while, but the same problem kept coming back.

Out with my mom, Aunty Peg, and Uncle Amos for Beethoven’s 5th with the Rhode Island Philharmonic at the Vets.

Great night.

Years ago, one of my patients, who used to play second violin for the RI Philharmonic, gave me a simple way to listen to classical music.

First, listen for the core idea.

Beethoven makes that easy in the 5th. Those first four notes may be the most famous opening in music. He gives you the idea right at the start.

Then listen for the conversation.

He keeps passing that idea from one section to another, and once you start hearing that, the whole thing gets a lot more fun to follow.

Look to where the wall meets the ceiling.
Now, inhale while rolling your shoulders up and back.
Finally, exhale while dropping your eyes back to level and relaxing your shoulders down.

Postural reset: Breathe in while looking to where the wall meets the ceiling. Now, lift and roll your shoulders up and back. Finally, breathe out and bring your eyes back to level as you relax your shoulders down.
