Just added another resource to my little shop 🤎

Words of affirmation are such a great tool to use during labor as a way to cope with pain & pressure, feel encouraged & motivated to keep going, and to feel positive about all the things that labor brings.

With these affirmation cards, moms can have the encouraging words of a doula right in front of her during all of the transformative moments of birth.

Over the past few years, I’ve sat with many mothers carrying birth stories they couldn’t make sense of. Stories of unwanted medical interventions, unplanned or emergency cesareans, long labors, unsupportive partners, providers who disregarded their needs and desires, and so many feelings of disappointment, grief, sadness, anger, and fear about their birth experiences.

As a doula, I hold space for these moms however they need - holding their hand as they tell their story, offering a comfort meal and tea, answering the questions they may have about what happened, referring them to a necessary maternal mental health professional, etc.

I wanted to do a little more. So, I created this self-paced workbook for women to use as a guide to emotional healing, and ultimately give themselves the strength and courage to move beyond their traumatic experience.

If you or someone you know is struggling to process a difficult birth experiences, please visit the link below where you can find the Reclaim Your Birth workbook. 🤎

This time of year, I always get suspiciously organized and well rested. And then I realize what time of year it is - it’s the calm before the most beautiful (baby) storm. 🤪

In July and August, my doula life slows down just bit, I even get full nights of sleep some of the time.

And then, BAM! Babies everywhere.

September and October are the BUSIEST baby months. (I should have known that with my own husband and child having birthdays during that time). With that being said, if you see me in the fall looking a little tired and a little crazy, no you didn’t. 😂

Today, I got to join a friend at her anatomy scan for her sweet baby boy. Celebrating pregnancy alongside the people I care about is such a joy. I already can’t wait to meet this little guy! 💙

Thank you, Lucia, for inviting me to tag along!

As a doula, I’ve sat beside more mothers than I can count during moments of overwhelming joy. But, I’ve also sat beside more mothers than I can count during moments of overwhelming sadness - sadness fueled by weeks of broken sleep, by hormones that feel completely out of your control, by loneliness, by feeding struggles, by physical pain, by the impossible weight of wondering if you’re doing enough for your baby.

The postpartum season is messy, beautiful, and tender.

No matter how much you prepare, you can’t always predict what your postpartum journey will bring. It may include postpartum depression or anxiety, breastfeeding challenges, a baby who cries for hours, birth recovery that takes longer than expected, or simply the adjustment of becoming a parent. But, you CAN prepare for the things within your control. Before your baby arrives, before the exhaustion sets in, take time to build your support system.

💗Find a maternal mental health therapist before you think you need one.
💗 Fill your freezer with nourishing meals or organize a meal train.
💗 Make sure your partner or support person knows the signs that you may be struggling.
💗 Create realistic expectations for returning to work and daily life.
💗 Schedule care for yourself, whether that’s a massage, chiropractic care, a quiet coffee alone, or simply uninterrupted time to rest.
💗 Set realistic expectations for yourself and your baby.
💗 Discuss sharing responsibilities with your partner.
💗 Have professional, in-home lactation support lined up if you plan to breastfeed.
💗 Consider hiring a postpartum doula for daytime or overnight support.

We spend months preparing for labor and birth, let’s spend just as much time preparing for what comes after. Postpartum mothers were never meant to do this alone.

Behind many strong families is a dad carrying more than anyone realizes: the pressure to provide, the heaviness of having to always be the strong one, the constant fear of failing, grief of infertility and loss, the uncertainty of new parenthood, the desire to protect the people he cares for the most.

Today, let’s remember that dads have mental health needs too.

Happy Father’s Day to the fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, fathers in waiting, grieving fathers, and the men doing their very best everyday for their families. ❤️
