Most people think OT means working on handwriting, feeding, or getting dressed. But we look deeper — at fine motor skills, sensory processing, emotional regulation, motor planning, and executive functioning. Instead of asking "how do we get this task done," we ask "what's really getting in the way?" That's how kids build real confidence and independence.

Wondering what might be behind your child's challenges? Contact Advanced Therapy & Wellness Center at 815-782-4196 or visit mytherapywellness.com to schedule an evaluation.

✨ September is all about ACCOUNTABILITY! ✨

This week, we’re proud to recognize four incredible patients who have shown us what it means to take ownership of their journey, stay committed, and keep showing up even when the work isn’t easy. 💙💛

👏 Josie D.
👏 Madix M.
👏 Noah L.
👏 Charlotte S.

Progress doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from doing the work, practicing outside of therapy, following through, accepting challenges, and choosing to keep going. 💪

We see the effort these patients are putting in. We see their dedication. We see them taking responsibility for their goals and becoming active participants in their own progress. And that deserves to be celebrated! 🌟

To Josie, Madix, Noah, and Charlotte: we congratulate you, we salute you, and we are so excited to recognize your hard work! 🫡💙

Stay tuned for next week’s nominees and for the announcement of our September ACCOUNTABILITY Core Value Award winner! 🏆✨

Practicing speech sounds won't fix a structural problem underneath.

We don't just treat symptoms — we go after the root cause. If a child has an airway or structural issue, like a tongue tie affecting jaw growth, we address that first instead of drilling articulation or feeding therapy on top of it. Precise movements like speech require proper structure and range of motion. Skip the root cause, and you're just working around a problem that keeps compensating elsewhere.

Wondering if a structural issue is behind your child's speech or feeding challenges? Contact Advanced Therapy & Wellness Center at 815-782-4196 or visit MyTherapyWellness.com to schedule an evaluation.

We’re incredibly proud to share that Advanced Therapy & Wellness Center has been named Top Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder Therapy Clinic of 2026. 🏆💛

But this recognition means more to us because of who helped us earn it.

It reflects the families who took the time to share their experiences—not just that they received “great service,” but that they felt heard, understood the why behind treatment, saw their providers collaborating, watched their child become excited for therapy, or finally found answers that made feeding, breathing, or development make sense. 🥹

It reflects the dentists, orthodontists, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and other professionals who continue to trust us with their patients. 🤝

And it reflects our incredible team—clinicians across speech, feeding, myofunctional & airway therapy, occupational therapy, and bodywork who collaborate every day because our patients deserve more than disconnected pieces of care. 🧩

For 8 years in Crest Hill, we’ve had the privilege of caring for patients from infancy through adulthood—and we’re incredibly grateful for every family who has trusted us along the way. 🌿

To everyone who has referred a patient, left a review, recommended us to a friend, or walked through our doors:

Thank you. This recognition belongs to you, too. 💛

Meltdowns, picky eating, missed milestones — it might be more than a "phase."

The toddler years are full of rapid growth — and sometimes struggle. If your toddler gets easily frustrated, struggles with transitions or feeding, avoids certain sensory experiences, or seems behind on motor skills, occupational therapy can help. Through play, OT builds the foundation for independence, confidence, and connection to the world around them.

Wondering if OT could help your toddler thrive? Contact Advanced Therapy & Wellness Center at 815-782-4196 or visit MyTherapyWellness.com to schedule an evaluation.

Save this for your child’s next dental, pediatric, or orthodontic appointment. 📌 Two simple questions can open up a much bigger conversation.

Appointments move quickly, and airway and oral function aren’t always part of a routine visit. Asking specifically can help you understand the bigger picture.

🦷 Question #1:
“Is their palate narrow for their age, and is their tongue resting up or down?”

Palate shape and tongue resting posture are two pieces worth looking at together—especially if you’ve also noticed mouth breathing, snoring, crowded teeth, or lips resting open. 👃👅

😁 Question #2 — especially before orthodontic treatment:
“Before we consider expansion or braces, should breathing and tongue posture be addressed first?”

Orthodontics can change the position of the teeth and jaws, while myofunctional therapy focuses on patterns like tongue posture, lip seal, nasal breathing, and swallowing. When both are relevant, coordination and timing matter. 🧩

And remember: “No concerns here” is a useful answer, too. 💛 Your dentist or orthodontist may already be watching these things—and many welcome parents asking thoughtful questions.

You’re not being difficult. You’re advocating for a clearer picture of your child’s function. 🌿

Feeding a newborn can feel overwhelming—especially when advice is coming from every direction at once. 🤍

That’s exactly why we created Feed. Breathe. Grow. 🌿 A FREE parent guide to infant feeding, oral function, tongue ties, body tension, and early development.

Because sometimes feeding concerns don’t look like one obvious problem. They look like:

🍼 Feeds lasting 45+ minutes
👅 Clicking while nursing
💨 Excessive gas
🤍 Arching or discomfort
💧 Frequent reflux
😴 Falling asleep before finishing a feed
↔️ Difficulty turning comfortably to one side

Sometimes these things are part of normal newborn adjustment. Other times, they may be clues that the mechanics behind feeding deserve a closer look.

A baby needs coordinated tongue movement, suction, swallowing, breathing, and comfortable movement through the head, neck, and body to feed efficiently. When one piece is working harder, you may see symptoms somewhere else.

Our guide breaks it down in simple, parent-friendly language—what to notice, what questions to ask, and where to turn when something doesn’t feel right. 💛
