It's Not About the Yoga

It's August, and our retreat is almost here. https://yogoonthego.com/2026-retreat/

I wish I could capture the magic of this retreat in a simple elevator pitch, but the truth is...it's almost impossible.

Yes, it's yoga. Yes, it's meditation, sound, ceremony, nature, and beautiful mountain views.

But that's not why people come.

They come because something shifts.

They leave feeling lighter. More spacious. More themselves. They return home with a quieter mind, a more open heart, and a renewed trust in who they are and where they're headed.

It's why people come back year after year.

It's why this is the offering I cherish most.

Every detail has been thoughtfully woven together—from the beautiful mountain lodge and nourishing meals to the Soul Journey practices, Yoga Nidra, yoga, sound healing, energy healing offerings, and the incredible community that forms each time we gather.

If you've been considering joining us, this is your invitation.

There are just three spaces remaining, and I'd love to welcome you into this year's circle.

Here's what past retreat participants have shared:

"The most transformative weekend I have all year. My co-workers can even tell the difference when I return."

"I arrived feeling lost, powerless, and with very little hope. The introspective journey Carin guided me through helped me reconnect with my inner truth. Each session left me feeling stronger, clearer, and more empowered."

"We were complete beginners and quickly realized our level of yoga experience didn't matter one bit. The energy created by the group was heartwarming. This was so much more than a yoga retreat—it changed the way we look at life."

"Carin's retreat was life-changing. I loved the intimate atmosphere, the exceptional food, and the peaceful surroundings. I left feeling renewed and healed."

Sometimes the biggest transformations begin with a simple yes.

🌿 August 28–31 • Needlerock Lodge • Crawford, Colorado

If your heart has been nudging you toward this experience, I'd love to share it with you. There are just three spaces left.

The Universe Cleared My Schedule

Recently, it occurred to me that I had so much more space in my days. Almost too much.

I found myself wondering what I might do with it. Should I volunteer? Find a part-time job? Finally organize that drawer everyone has in their house? (You know the one.)

Then a friend came to visit from out of town, and as we caught up on life, I suddenly realized where all that space had come from.

Since my stepmom moved into memory care in early May, and after I finished the long process of preparing and selling her house, an enormous chapter had quietly come to a close. The appointments, decisions, phone calls, paperwork, repairs, and the constant mental tab that was always open had slowly fallen away.

I hadn't noticed it happening.

It wasn't until months later that I looked up and saw a clear vista of time stretching out before me.

Isn't it interesting how often life works that way?

We don't always recognize change while we're living it. Sometimes we're so busy adapting that we don't notice we've already crossed into a new season. Little by little, we recalibrate. What once felt extraordinary becomes ordinary. What once consumed our days quietly disappears, and before long, our new normal simply feels...normal.

Only when we pause do we realize just how different life has become.

Those moments can feel both exhilarating and a little unsettling. Wide-open spaces invite possibility, but they also seem to whisper, "Well...what are you going to do with me?"

Before long, our minds are happily making lists, proposing projects, and convincing us that every open square on the calendar is crying out to be filled.

But perhaps not every empty space is meant to be filled immediately.

Perhaps some are invitations.

Invitations to breathe a little deeper. To notice what has shifted within us. To savor the spaciousness before covering it up with busyness. To let ourselves become familiar with this new landscape before deciding where to build.

Nature doesn't rush from one season into the next. There is always a period of transition—a quiet unfolding.

Maybe we're meant to honor those transitions, too.

When life unexpectedly opens a new vista, perhaps our first job isn't to map out the next adventure.

Perhaps it's simply to stand there for a while, breathe in the view, and trust that when the time is right, the universe will gently reveal the path forward.

The Universe Doesn't Deliver in Cardboard Boxes

There is an endless stream of products coming at us through social media. And the funny thing is, the moment you pause to read about one, you suddenly start seeing even more of that same type of product. Before long, your feed is filled with solutions to a problem you didn't even know you had.

Our minds are wired to look for problems to solve. So the more we see something, the more important it begins to feel. We start thinking, Maybe I do need that.

So we click "Order."

Then the package arrives.

Sometimes it gets set on a shelf, never to be used. Sometimes it doesn't work as advertised. And my personal favorite—it looks nothing like the description or photos, leaving us feeling a little foolish and more than a little taken advantage of.

After falling into that trap enough times, I created a simple rule for myself: I cannot order anything without thinking about it for at least 48 hours.

What I've discovered is that when I give myself time to step away from the marketing and drop back into the energetic being that I truly am, something shifts.

I don't feel a lack for anything.

I remember that my soulful self doesn't even have pockets or shelves to house these items.

More importantly, I feel content—just as I am.

Perhaps that's the place we need to cultivate more often and invite into our decision-making.

What if we began by feeling whole?

What if we started from a place of abundance instead of scarcity?

Then, from that grounded place, we could ask ourselves: Will acquiring this truly bring me joy? Will it genuinely solve a problem or improve my life? Will it support the person I am becoming, or am I simply trying to fill a feeling that can never be filled by another purchase?

If the answer is yes, wonderful. Buy it and enjoy it.

But if the answer is no, we've just saved ourselves money, clutter, and the quiet disappointment of discovering that what we were really looking for was never something we could order.

The universe has been trying to deliver us a feeling of abundance all along.

Social media just keeps trying to ship it in a cardboard box.

Shine is Meant to be Shared

Do you have someone in your life who never seems able to say, "Good job," "Thank you," "I appreciate your help," or even, "I'm sorry"?

It's almost as though offering praise, gratitude, or acknowledgment would require giving away a piece of themselves.

Life has presented me with several opportunities lately to experience what it feels like to be on the receiving end of that dynamic—to feel underappreciated, unseen, and never quite good enough.

As uncomfortable as it's been, it has also reminded me of something important.

Giving appreciation costs us nothing, yet it can profoundly impact another person's heart. A few sincere words of gratitude or recognition can make someone feel valued, seen, and encouraged.

It has also reminded me that my worth cannot depend on whether someone else is capable of expressing appreciation. Self-worth is an inside job.

And perhaps most importantly, it has encouraged me to become more discerning about where I invest my time, energy, and heart. Relationships flourish where appreciation, respect, and kindness flow in both directions. When they don't, it may be time to gently loosen our grip, set healthier boundaries, and invest more deeply in the people who freely see our value.

I've also come to believe that expressing appreciation doesn't just lift the person receiving it—it transforms the person offering it. Every time we say, "Thank you," "I appreciate you," or "You did a great job," we cultivate generosity, humility, and presence.

When we can genuinely celebrate someone else's gifts, talents, or accomplishments, we're reminded that each of us has our own unique gifts and our own kind of magic to bring into the world. Life was never meant to be a competition. It's an invitation to notice, appreciate, and be inspired by the ways we each contribute something beautiful that no one else can.

Perhaps that's one of the simplest spiritual practices there is: cultivating gratitude and appreciation expands our own heart. The more we celebrate the light in others, the more brightly our own life shines. And isn't that the real gift? We don't lose anything by recognizing someone else's brilliance—we simply gain another reason to be grateful for this wonderfully diverse tapestry of humanity.

The Case for Cosmic Traffic Control

Sometimes I wonder if the universe is far more carefully orchestrated than we can possibly comprehend.

Think about it. Every day, billions of people are driving cars, crossing streets, boarding airplanes, making split-second decisions, carrying frustrations, joys, and fears. Statistically, it seems like there should be far more chaos than there is. Yet somehow, life continues with far more harmony than disorder.

I don't know if that's divine orchestration, collective consciousness, grace, or simply something beyond my understanding. But I find comfort in wondering.

It also makes me curious about the smaller moments in my own life.

The days when I seem to misplace everything, drop things, run behind schedule, or hit every red light. My first instinct is often frustration. But then I remember the "burnt toast theory"—the idea that burning your morning toast forces you to make another slice, delaying your departure just enough to avoid the accident you never knew was ahead.

Whether or not that's literally true almost doesn't matter. It reminds me that not every inconvenience is working against me. Some may be quietly working for me.

I also believe life continually places experiences in our path that invite us to grow. The difficult conversation. The unexpected detour. The closed door. The disappointment. While I may not welcome them in the moment, many have ultimately shaped me into someone wiser, more compassionate, and more resilient.

I've found that life becomes much more interesting when I choose to believe that it is happening with me rather than to me.

So today, I invite you to join me in an experiment.

Trust that the universe is unfolding in ways you cannot yet see. Trust that some delays may be protection, some challenges may be teachers, and some disappointments may simply be preparing the ground for something better.

Even when it doesn't feel that way.

Especially then.

We've got this.

The Calm Beneath the Noise

The wildfires burning across Colorado have brought more than smoke to our skies. They have stirred something within many of us. Even those far from immediate danger can feel the weight of uncertainty hanging in the air.

Moments like these remind us how much of life is beyond our control.

We cannot direct the wind. We cannot stop the flames. We cannot predict what tomorrow will bring.

When the external world feels uncertain, it's natural for our nervous system to become unsettled. Our minds begin searching for certainty—for something to hold onto.

Ironically, the very thing we seek isn't usually found outside of us.

This week's restorative yoga practice explored the idea of finding stability within, even when life around us feels anything but stable.

Yoga teaches us that steadiness isn't the absence of change. In fact, one of the qualities cultivated through practice is sthira—an inner sense of steadiness that exists alongside life's inevitable fluctuations. It's not about becoming rigid or unaffected by what is happening around us. It's about discovering a quiet center that remains available, even as circumstances continue to shift.

Our breath becomes one of our greatest teachers.

It has been with us through every chapter of our lives—every celebration, every disappointment, every season of growth, and every season of loss. It asks nothing of us except our attention.

One breath.

Then another.

As we lengthen the exhale, the nervous system begins to receive a different message. Rather than preparing for what's next, it remembers what is true right now:

In this moment, I am here.

Nature offers us this lesson as well. A tree cannot stop the wind, but it can deepen its roots. A mountain cannot prevent the changing weather, yet it remains grounded through every season.

Perhaps our yoga practice, meditation, time in nature, or moments of quiet reflection are how we deepen our own roots—not so life becomes predictable, but so we become more resilient within it.

Eventually, the smoke will lift. This season will pass, just as every season does. Yet life will continue to unfold with all of its beauty and uncertainty.

The invitation isn't to wait until everything feels safe before experiencing peace.

The invitation is to remember that peace has always been available beneath the noise.

Today, if the world feels heavy, pause for just a moment.

Take one slow inhale.

An even slower exhale.

Feel your feet on the earth.

Notice the steady rhythm of your breath.

Remember that while you may not always be able to calm the storm around you, you can cultivate a steadiness within.

Return to the quiet place that no wind can shake.

That place has been there all along.

✨ Imagine giving yourself four days to simply be. ✨

What might change if you stepped away from the constant demands of everyday life and immersed yourself in nature, meaningful practices, and a community of kind, like-minded people?

This August, I'm hosting **Awaken & Expand**, a four-day yoga and Soul Journey retreat at beautiful Needlerock Lodge near Crawford, Colorado.

Together we'll explore yoga, meditation, Biofield Tuning, sound healing, journaling, sacred ceremony, and practices designed to help you reconnect with your authentic self. There will be time for quiet reflection, hiking, energy treatments, nourishing meals, laughter, and genuine connection—all in a stunning mountain setting surrounded by orchards, vineyards, and breathtaking views.

One of the things that makes this retreat unique is that the experience begins before you even arrive. As soon as you register, you'll be invited to monthly online Biofield Tuning sessions and Yoga Nidra meditations, plus you'll receive a private intuitive reading and soul coaching session to help prepare you for the retreat.

My intention isn't simply to offer a relaxing weekend—it's to create a space where you can experience a meaningful shift, leave feeling deeply restored, and return home with practices that continue to support you long after the retreat ends.

There are **just three spaces remaining**, and I'd love to share this experience with those who feel called to join us.

If you'd like to learn more, send me a message or leave a comment below. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

I hope our paths cross this August. 🌿

The Lesson I Didn't Want

I had an amazing time at the Telluride Yoga Festival. Every class was inspiring—except one.

At least, that's what I thought at first.

Ironically, that class ended up teaching me more than any of the others.

Not because of the sequencing or the philosophy being shared, but because it held up a mirror.

As I sat with my reaction, I realized an old wound was still alive within me. It was quietly influencing my judgments about someone else's teaching style. I also recognized something less comfortable: while I often tell myself I don't enjoy it when people dwell on the negative, I can do exactly the same thing. Instead of appreciating everything the class offered, my mind became fixated on what I didn't like.

It was a humbling reminder that our strongest reactions often point toward something unresolved within ourselves. What triggers us isn't always about the person or situation in front of us. Sometimes it's simply an invitation to look inward with curiosity instead of certainty.

The experience also reminded me that we are always exactly where we are meant to be. Even the moments we'd rather avoid can become our greatest teachers if we're willing to listen.

Thoughts and emotions will always arise. We don't have to judge them or push them away. We can simply notice them, become curious, let them move through us, and resist inviting an unwelcome visitor to stay.

Sometimes the lesson we need most doesn't come wrapped in comfort. Sometimes it arrives disguised as discomfort, gently pointing us toward another opportunity to heal, grow, and know ourselves a little more deeply.

6 Pages and a Lovely Afternoon

Life gets interesting when you move through the world believing that nothing is a coincidence and that the universe is always working for your highest good.

Today, I had a long list of productive to-dos and was making great progress when my friend Ellen texted. She had generously put up all the retreat posters I had given her and was hoping to get more before she left Crested Butte for home. I was so grateful that I immediately dropped what I was doing and headed to the printer.

Except the printer had other plans.

The ink wasn't working properly, and after trying every troubleshooting tip I could find, the recommendation was to turn it off and let it sit for 24 hours. Dang.

That meant driving into Crested Butte—about 10 miles each way—to the nearest print shop. There was a time when I might have felt frustrated by the malfunctioning printer and the extra effort required to do something as simple as printing six pages. Instead, I decided to let the universe conduct the orchestra and simply follow along.

As it turned out, I loved the summer drive into town, my two Scotties coming along as eager passengers. At the print shop, I realized I also needed printer paper. Yay! While I was in town, I was able to fill up the gas tank and run my car through the wash with no lines at all—quite an accomplishment in a busy summer tourist town. And when I dropped off the posters, Ellen invited my passenger Scotties and me for a walk.

What began as an inconvenient detour became a delightful afternoon.

Sometimes it's good to remember that the universe is the master conductor. Our plans matter, but so does our willingness to riff when life invites us off script. When we stop resisting the unexpected, we often discover that the detour was part of the gift all along.

What a lovely day.

Titling Your Chapters

As we move through life, we experience transformative moments—some arriving like whirlwinds, impossible to miss, and others unfolding more quietly, perhaps no less profound, slipping in like a gentle breeze. However they arise, these moments often signal the beginning of a new chapter. It is important to consciously acknowledge them and give ourselves the time and space to embody their wisdom.

Sometimes that acknowledgment may be as simple as pausing to feel a sense of gratitude. Other times, it may involve choosing or creating a talisman that helps us remember. And when an experience creates a true shift in our being, we may choose to mark the transition through ceremony—alone or in community—to solidify the change and establish a new way of moving forward.

Don't rush past moments of wonder and expansion. Mark the thresholds of becoming in your life—the beginnings and the endings—for each refines you into more of who you truly are.

These moments don't add to your baggage; they help you put it down, freeing you to become even more fully yourself.

Your life is a living story of becoming, and you are its writer. Honor each chapter.

Join us at our August retreat and discover meaningful ways to mark the thresholds of your life—creating cairns that guide and support you along your journey.
