In Loving Memory of Chad Robert Sullivan who was surrounded by his family as he returned to our lord on October 17, 2026.
Chad was born on March 21,1973 in Gary Indiana.
The son of Robert Sullivan and the late Treva (Gunter) Mills.
Chad is survived by his father, Robert (Patty) Sullivan; sister, Nikki (Kyle) Klepsch; brother, Brian Freche; sister, Alyssa Wilson; niece and nephew, Evie and Carter Klepsch as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins including
his special cousin, Kara Fitzpatrick.
He is also very fondly remembered by his loving grandfather, Vernon (Bob) Sullivan.

Chad joins in eternal rest, his mother, Treva Mills; sister, Kristin Freche; grandmother, Judie Sullivan and grandparents, Fran and Leo Kitchen.

Chads early years were spent in Florida where he attended and graduated from Fort Myers High School Edison Center.
His life was characterized by passionate love for music, particularly the songs of Michael Jackson and his enthusiasm for professional wrestling, especially WWE.
Chads creativity shone brightly through his love of making videos and capturing moments of family celebrations.

It is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of Elsie Kowal (formerly Nielsen), age 92, on October 17, 2026. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Crown Point, IN.

Elsie laughed easily and smiled often and was dearly loved by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Mark (Dr. Vera Andjelkovic) Kowal, Karen Camisa, and Diane (Herb) MacLeod; her grandchildren, Jason Camisa, Justin (Amy) Camisa; and her great grandson.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Kowal; their baby, Johnny and their furry family, Brandy and Fluffy. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Marius and Ethel Nielsen; sisters, Betty Borca, June Overeem, and Marie Kreuger.

She worked tirelessly to support her family and retired from Inland Steel. Elsie enjoyed an active social life attending dinner dances with her husband, playing slot machines at the casino, weekly pinochle at the Crown Point Senior Center, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards with family and friends. She was happiest spending time with her family.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, 8303 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN. She will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery.

Sidney R. Paxton, 68, of Hobart passed away on October 9, in Valparaiso, the city he was born, after suffering a stroke earlier this summer. Sid was the second of three children of parents, Dorothy and Richard, who preceded Sid in death. Sid was a lifelong resident of Hobart, a graduate of Hobart High School class of 1976, after which he attended Indiana State University and Montana State University. Sid was an outstanding athlete as a Brickie, starring in football, basketball, and baseball, and earning all-conference recognition in all three sports. Sid held a variety of jobs in his life, from corporate recruiter in Chicago, to foreman at Dietrich Industries, Sid finished his working life as a union carpenter. Sid was always known as a hard and dependable worker. In his free time, he enjoyed being with family, playing golf, softball, spending time with friends watching sports, shopping at Costco, and growing flowers and tomatoes in his gardens. He had several loves in his life, both two-and-four-legged varieties, and he thought of them fondly over the years. He enjoyed walking Tia, his shepherd mix that he rescued from a job site near her death. Tia was followed by Lucy, who he inherited when his sister Jean passed in 2020. He loved his dogs and fed them nothing but Whole Foods chicken and organic beef!

Barbara Hall, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on June 6, 1930, in Gary, Indiana, she was a beacon of warmth and kindness to all who knew her. Barbara's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to family and faith. She graduated with distinction, ninth in her class, from Emerson High School in Gary in 1948. This academic achievement was just the beginning of a life filled with personal and professional accomplishments. On April 29, 1949, she married the love of her life, Alvin Luther Hall, Jr. Together, they built a family filled with love and laughter, sharing nearly 37 wonderful years before Alvin's passing in 1986. Her professional life was equally fruitful. Barbara dedicated over 30 years to Ticor Title, where she rose from secretary to branch manager and loan closer, retiring in 1996. Her colleagues admired her work ethic and leadership, and she left an indelible mark on the company. A devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Hobart for more than 60 years, Barbara served as a former treasurer and was actively involved in church activities. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and her contributions to the church community were deeply valued. Barbara's greatest joy came from her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her sons, A. Bradley Hall (Cathy), Jeffrey S. Hall (Loye “Teamy”), and Timothy E....

Carolyn Ann (Earl) Barnes, age 91, passed away peacefully in her home on October 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 30, 1934, in Renwick, Iowa, Carolyn lived a life marked by kindness, compassion, and a heart that always put others first.
At the age of six, Carolyn moved with her family to Gary, Indiana, where she grew up and later graduated from Wirt High School. She spent many years working in the banking industry, serving as both a bank teller and a loan officer at multiple banks throughout her career. She retired from East Division Credit Union in 1999. In 2016, she moved to Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, to live with her daughter and spend her final years creating memories with her granddaughters.
One of the most special parts of Carolyn’s life was her love story with her husband, Woodrow “Woody” Barnes. The two knew each other from school, but their story took a special turn one rainy day at Jack Spratt’s Ice Cream Shop in Miller, Indiana. Carolyn was already inside the shop when Woody came in from the rain. He approached her and asked her out on their first date, beginning a love story that would last for decades. They married on December 29, 1956, and shared nearly 38 wonderful years together until Woody’s passing in 1994. Their life together remained a cherished part of Carolyn’s story.

Marion Stephens, nee O'Bra age 99 of Lowell, Indiana formerly of Steger, Illinois arrived in heaven on September 24th. She passed peacefully in her sleep. Beloved wife of the late Harry J. Stephens. Loving mother of Mary Ellen (Michael) Harris, Harry (Debbie) Stephens and Matthew (Jennifer) Stephens. Proud grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of six. Preceded in death by her parents Frank and Catherine O'Bra and all of her six siblings.

Marion was born in Chicago, Illinois and was the youngest of seven children. She had many fond memories of her childhood that she shared with her family over the years. Marion worked as a secretary in downtown Chicago for a few years before meeting her future husband Harry. She enjoyed working, her friends and the excitement of the city back in the late forties and early fifties.

She married in 1954 and became a Mom the next year. She was a wonderful wife and mother, a great cook and housekeeper. She was always there for us when we got home from school. She was the perfect example of a lady and a mother from that era.

Marion had many lifelong friends from childhood, co-workers and neighbors. She loved to keep in touch through letter writing and had very beautiful penmanship. She was an avid reader, loved watching classic movies, enjoyed knitting and adored cats.

We miss her dearly.

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Patricia Daniels, age 64, of Crown Point, Indiana, who passed away on October 10, 2026.

Patricia was a strong woman whose love for her family was at the heart of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, memories, and a presence that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Though words can never fully express the pain of losing someone so important, the love she gave will continue to live on through her family for generations to come.

Patricia was a proud mother to Franklin Kelley, married to Corina, and Crystal Stokes, married to Justin, Natalie Pender, married to John, and Christopher Kelley, married to Dana. Her love extended to her beloved grandchildren, Aiden Stokes, Dean Stokes, and Lyra Stokes who will forever hold a special place in her heart and whose lives will carry her memory forward.

She is also survived by her siblings, Nichole Demetrakis, Stephanie Daniels, Dale Daniels Jr., Judy Daniels, and Barbara Daniels.

Patricia had a love for music, especially Pink Floyd and Queen. She enjoyed getting lost in the pages of James Patterson and J.D. Robb novels, and she found enjoyment in crossword puzzles and other brain teasers. These simple pleasures were part of the person her family knew and loved, adding their own special colors to the memories they will cherish.

Above all, Patricia loved her family. That love is a gift that death cannot take...

Robert E. Szeszycki “Fur Face” age 78, of Merrillville, formerly of Crestwood and Chicago Heights, IL. passed away peacefully on October 11, 2026. He was born on August 22,1948 to Edward and Patricia Szeszycki. Bob was a graduate of Dwight D. Eisenhower High School, class of 1966. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war, where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Bob worked at NIPSCO for over 20 years. He enjoyed cooking for parties at Buddy and Pals and Hunky Hollow (a fund-raising organization for cerebral palsy). Bob was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Patricia Szeszycki; sister-in-law, Colette Szeszycki, and his best four-legged friend, Wrigley. Bob is survived by his son, Scott (Maureen) Szeszycki; granddaughter, Belle Szeszycki; grandson, Kyle Muntwyler; longtime love of his life, Susan Kralis; brother, Donald Szeszycki, and 4 nieces and nephews. Charles "Buck" Towry, 75, of Crown Point, Indiana, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026. A proud Vietnam veteran, Buck served in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he worked for many years in the steel mills and was an avid baseball fan.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Diane Towry; his parents; and his siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Christina Towry (Anthony Grutzius) and Kathleen Towry; his nephew/adopted son, Matthew Littrell; and many family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
There will be a private military service held at the National VA cemetery Lincoln Memorial in honor of his service.
