MMP, CLT, LMT, Health Coach,
Certified Medical Massage and Lymphedema Therapist

The primary modalities I use are Medical Massage, Cryotherapy, IASTM, Deep Tissue Massage, MLD Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Detox Lymphatic Drainage, Post Liposuction Lymphatic Drainage, Manual Decongestive Lymphedema Drainage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release and Bodywork. I am certified in FMT Basic and FMT Performance Taping. FMT taping addresses rehab, posture, edema, and sports performance and the effects of elastic therapeutic taping on pain mitigation, circulation, and proprioception. FMT Performance Taping emphasizes myofascial pathways, movement therapy, and performance enhancement. I collaborate with chiropractic doctors and serve individuals with various conditions and needs. My loyal repeat clients consist of mothers working hard at home, competing athletes, and everything in between. Most often, the client is looking for relief for chronic pain or to relieve stress-related problems. One might have a prescription from a doctor for us to focus on a specific medical problem, like relieving tension and adhesions resulting from surgery or relieving symptoms of neuropathy. Sometimes, a relaxing Swedish massage is exactly what the doctor ordered, so we have that on the menu as well, with soothing essential oils. I received my holistic health training mostly in Finland at Perheniemi Evangelic College, where I studied Kajava Therapy (Deep Tissue Massage and Myofascial Release) and many holistic health modalities, diet therapies, vitamin/mineral and herbal therapies, spa therapies, Bach Flower Remedies and Aroma Therapy. I graduated as a Holistic Nutritional Counselor and later on as a Holistic Health Practitioner. In the USA, I studied Massage Therapy at First Institute.INC, Crystal Lake, and graduated as a Licensed Massage Therapist. Currently, I am continuing my studies in Natural Medicine at IQUIM University. I aim to graduate next year as a Doctor of Natural Medicine (DNM). Since 2002, I have been providing my services as a Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP), consulting clients, friends, and family about natural approaches to their health. I am passionate about natural health, holistic medicines, and therapies. Great physical, mental, and spiritual health can be better achieved and maintained with natural, noninvasive methods. There is a place for allopathic health care, naturally, but unfortunately, the focus is on chemical intervention, causing many serious, unnecessary side effects and even deaths. The root cause of the problem is ignored, or it needs to be understood. Many health problems can be prevented with gentle, natural, holistic methods and changes in habits and diet.

THE MESSAGE I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER

After 30 days of talking about lymphatics, massage, and specialized education, remember this: You have every right to ask questions before someone treats your body.

Ask about credentials.
Ask about training.
Ask about contraindications.
Ask why a particular technique is being recommended.
Ask whether your condition falls within the practitioner's training and professional scope.

And if you have lymphedema or complex lymphatic needs, ask specifically about comprehensive lymphedema education. LE&RN recommends a CLT-LANA or therapist with at least 135 hours of specialized training.

The best therapeutic relationship isn't: “Trust me because I'm the professional.”

It's:

“Let me explain what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, and whether it's appropriate for you.” That is informed care.

WHY I KEEP TALKING ABOUT CLT EDUCATION

Because clients don't know what they don't know. Most people understandably assume:

“Lymphatic drainage is lymphatic drainage.”But training can vary tremendously.

LE&RN specifically notes that partial training is common and identifies a 135-hour course as the qualification benchmark for a fully trained CLT.

My purpose isn't to attack other therapists. It's to encourage clients to understand exactly who is treating them and what education that person has completed.

When you're healthy and booking a relaxation massage, this distinction may not matter much.

When you're medically complicated? It can matter a great deal.

“BUT THEY HAVE AMAZING INSTAGRAM BEFORE & AFTER PHOTOS…”

Pictures tell you what something looked like.

They don't tell you:

What caused the swelling.
Whether the client had complications.
What training the therapist had.
What happened two weeks later.
Whether the treatment was medically appropriate.

Or whether the photo was even representative of a typical outcome. Social media is marketing.

Credentials, education, assessment, and clinical judgment are something else entirely.

Use before-and-after pictures as information—not as a substitute for investigating qualifications.

BEFORE YOU BOOK, ASK THESE 5 QUESTIONS

Choosing someone for lymphatic care?

Ask:

1. What lymphatic training have you completed?
2. Are you a Certified Lymphedema Therapist?
3. How many hours was your lymphatic/lymphedema education?
4. Do you screen for contraindications before treatment?
5. Do you refer back to medical providers when something appears outside your scope?

For complex lymphatic conditions, LE&RN recommends seeking CLT-LANA certification or at least 135 hours of lymphedema training.

An educated client can make an educated choice.
Save this post—you may need it later.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE SHOULD HAVE A “WHY”

Why are we working here?
Why this technique?
Why this amount of pressure?
Why now?
What changed since your last appointment?
What are we trying to accomplish?

Those are questions that should drive clinical bodywork.

Massage doesn't become “medical” simply because someone applies more pressure or uses complicated terminology.

Clinical reasoning is what creates an intentional treatment.

If you are looking for therapeutic bodywork built around your specific problem rather than a standard routine, message us.

MYTH: EVERYONE BENEFITS FROM LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

No treatment is right for everybody.

Not massage.
Not MLD.
Not cupping.
Not stretching.
Not any therapy.

There are circumstances in which lymphatic drainage should be avoided, or medical clearance may be needed. Cleveland Clinic lists conditions including blood clots, DVT, cellulitis, fever, infection, heart disease, and kidney failure among situations in which lymphatic drainage should be avoided.

This is why screening matters.

A practitioner who tells every person they “need lymphatic drainage” is selling a service.

A practitioner who evaluates whether you actually need it is providing professional care.

THE ONE THAT MAY MAKE SOME THERAPISTS MAD

Being an excellent massage therapist does not automatically make someone a lymphedema specialist.

And being a CLT doesn't magically make someone excellent at every type of massage.

Different expertise.
Different education.
Different clinical problems.

That's the point.

When you're choosing a practitioner, match their training to your condition. For general massage? Find an excellent LMT.

For complex lymphatic conditions? Look carefully at specialized lymphatic education.LE&RN recommends a CLT-LANA or a therapist with at least 135 hours of lymphedema training.

This should not be controversial.
Specialization matters.
