Did you know? Build Borden will bring six new three-quarter living apartments to our Borden Street property — creating housing for 12 individuals ready to take their next step toward independence in recovery.

The need for recovery support in our community keeps growing — and every day, New Directions is working to meet it.

A Way Out has fielded 9,619 calls since January 1, helping individuals and families find their way toward treatment, resources, and support.

Recovery Housing has welcomed 152 new individuals this year, giving people a stable place to build the foundation sustainable recovery requires. In August alone, Housing served 62 individuals.

The Other Side welcomed more than 1,000 people in August alone — a safe, substance-free space to connect, build community, and attend recovery meetings.

September Employee Spotlight: Lauren Hammer

As our Program Support Specialist, Lauren keeps the behind-the-scenes details running — intake scheduling, program paperwork, and the everyday support that helps participants move through our services. But what she loves most is the community: getting to know residents and watching them grow.

Lauren is also a person in recovery herself, and that experience shapes how she shows up for the people we serve.

"This isn't just a job — it's an opportunity to be a living example of how beautiful and rewarding sobriety can be every single day."

This new campaign will fund six new three-quarter living apartments on Borden Street, creating housing for 12 individuals as they move toward greater independence in recovery.

It's fitting that we're launching this during National Recovery Month — because recovery doesn't stop at treatment. It needs a stable place to keep building a life.

Our Connect to Recovery Program helps individuals and families navigate treatment options and connects them with the right resources at the right time, because finding help shouldn't be its own barrier to getting it.

Employee of the Month: Shannon McKenna 🌟

This August, we're celebrating Shannon McKenna, our Housing Team Lead, on her 4-year work anniversary with New Directions!

Shannon's own recovery journey is what led her to this work. Today, she helps residents set real, attainable goals around their jobs, health, and next steps in recovery.

"I remember so many times when, at some point, even the little things just clicked... seeing the glimmer of hope that allows them to keep going — that's what I enjoy most."

From cooking dinner together to celebrating small wins, Shannon shows up for the brotherhood and sisterhood built in recovery, every day. Her advice to anyone just starting out: "Give something the chance to click."

Congratulations, Shannon — thank you for the hope you bring to this work. 💙
