Your child’s after school meltdown may have very little to do with what happened five minutes ago.

It may be the result of what their nervous system has been managing for the previous seven hours.

School requires kids to constantly adapt: sit still, transition quickly, process noise, follow directions, interact socially, perform academically and control impulses.

For some kids, their nervous system spends a large portion of that day in a heightened state of alert.

Think fight 🥊 or flight 🏃🏽 .

They may be able to hold themselves together while the demands are present, but once they get home and their brain recognizes, “I’m safe here,” that tension can finally release.

That’s why the smallest request can suddenly trigger a huge reaction.

As a parent, the goal isn’t to eliminate every boundary.

The goal is to recognize the state your child is in before deciding what they need from you.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is lower the stimulation, offer movement, get some food in them and give their nervous system time to come back down.

Because you’ll usually get much farther trying to teach a regulated child than trying to reason with a nervous system that is already overwhelmed.

Back to school season can bring a lot of changes at once… earlier mornings, longer days, more sitting, more stimulation and a whole new routine.

If your child suddenly seems exhausted, emotional, wired at bedtime or overwhelmed by the week ahead, don’t immediately assume something is “wrong.”

Start with the basics:
😴 Sleep
🚶 Movement
🥗 Good food
🧘 Quiet time
🗓️ A predictable routine
💜 Helping them process what’s ahead

You don’t need a complicated 12 step routine.

But if your family feels like there’s never enough time for the basics, it may be worth looking at what can come off the schedule.

Sometimes regulation starts with simply creating a little more margin.

That sharp pain under your ribs? It might not just be a tiny foot. 🤰

As your body changes shape to make room for your growing baby, your center of gravity shifts forward, your rib cage expands and flares outward to create space, and your posture is constantly compensating for all of it — often without you noticing.

Later in pregnancy, the expanding uterus pushes upward against the diaphragm and lower ribs, while the surrounding intercostal muscles and joints work to accommodate that pressure — which is often what creates that sharp, band-like tension so many describe. Your neuro-spinal system is coordinating every one of these adaptations in real time, and when it’s under strain from rapid structural changes, tension tends to build in the ribs, mid-back, and surrounding muscles.

A calm, beautiful birth story and a stressed baby nervous system aren’t mutually exclusive — and that surprises a lot of parents. 🤍

Even in the gentlest births, baby’s body absorbs significant physical forces simply moving through the birth canal — compression, rotation, and traction on the head, neck, and spine that every baby experiences to some degree, regardless of how smoothly the birth went.

This isn’t about anything going “wrong”; it’s simply what the birth process asks of a tiny, still-developing body. That physical stress can show up afterward as difficulty settling, a preference for turning the head one direction, trouble feeding on one side, or a nervous system that seems to stay a little more “wound up” than expected.

That’s why we love checking newborns early: a gentle, non-invasive scan lets us see how their neuro-spinal system is adapting to life outside the womb, so we can support that transition from the very start.

Your newborn just went through a pretty big transition, too.

For this mom, chiropractic care became one of the ways she supported her babies through those early weeks and months.

And one thing she wants other parents to know?

Newborn adjustments don’t look like what many people imagine when they hear the word “chiropractic.”

They can be incredibly gentle.

If you’ve ever wondered what chiropractic care for a newborn actually looks like, ask questions. We’re always happy to walk parents through it before you ever make a decision.

Sometimes kids become surprisingly good at telling us when something doesn’t feel right.

For this family, chiropractic care has been part of their routine through pregnancy, infancy, and now childhood.

Today, her daughter will actually ask to see Dr. Jeremy when her tummy is bothering her.

There’s something pretty special about helping kids learn to listen to their bodies and communicate what they’re feeling.

Freshly postpartum.
A newborn at home.
Another little one.
A husband who’s probably feeling the stress too.

Sometimes simply making care easier for a family can mean everything…. Like a home visit.

That’s one of the things she loves most about Dr. Jeremy… there’s no stuffiness or feeling like you’re just the next appointment on the schedule.

It feels personal. It feels comfortable. It feels like the whole family matters.

Sometimes you don’t realize how much progress has been made until your routine changes.

For this family, a week away meant a week without Lane’s normal chiropractic care. And according to his mom, Traci, the difference was noticeable.

She saw changes in his sleep, digestion, accidents, and meltdowns. Even family members who weren’t as convinced about chiropractic started asking what was going on.

That experience reinforced something important for their family: consistency matters.

Not because one adjustment is supposed to “fix everything,” but because they’ve seen how Lane responds when chiropractic care is part of the bigger picture of supporting him.

Every child is different. This is Lane’s story. 💜
