Itâs not so much âsheâs just anxiousâ as it is a nervous system thatâs never gotten to fully rest.
Three weeks into the school year, a lot of kids are running on a body that hasnât had a real reset since August. And when a nervous system stays on low-grade alert all day, it shows up as the things we call personality â the clinginess at drop-off, the stomachache before school, the 4pm meltdown that comes from nowhere.
You may already know anxiety in kids is rarely just emotional. Whatâs easier to miss is how physical it is:
đł Blood sugar â a carb-heavy breakfast and six hours until lunch produces a crash that looks exactly like anxiety
đ´ Sleep debt â even 30 minutes less a night, compounded for weeks, lowers the threshold for everything
đą Gut health â most of the bodyâs serotonin is made in the gut
đ Pace â some kids donât have one unscheduled hour between 7am and bedtime
Her feelings are real. Her body may just be making them heavier to carry than they need to be.
