Happy National CNA Week!
This week is traditionally dedicated to recognizing Certified Nursing Assistants, but at The Heron House, we believe caregiving extends far beyond a job title. Every single person on our team is a caregiver in their own way, and each of you plays an important role in the lives of our housemates and their families.
Caregiving is not just helping someone get dressed, assisting with meals, or completing tasks. It is the countless moments in between that often go unseen.
It is holding someone’s hand when their family can’t be there. It is sitting beside a housemate who is scared, lonely, grieving, confused, or simply in need of company. It is taking the time to learn family stories, remember important anniversaries, know favorite snacks, favorite shows, and the little details that make someone feel known and valued. It is sharing your lunch with someone who is hungry, offering your shoulder to a family member who needs to cry, taking someone outside for fresh air, or finding a way to make a difficult day a little brighter. It is reminding someone that they matter when they have forgotten their own worth. It is protecting dignity in the smallest moments, whether that means wiping a dribble from someone’s lip, helping with personal care, or ensuring someone feels respected and comfortable even on their hardest days. It is sitting vigil so no one has to leave this world alone. It is helping families create final memories they will carry with them forever. It is caring deeply enough to cry when we lose someone we have come to love.
The work you do requires compassion, patience, resilience, kindness, and heart. It asks a lot of you, and somehow, day after day, you continue to show up and give so much of yourselves to others.
Whether you provide direct care, prepare meals, manage medications, coordinate schedules, lead activities, maintain our home, support families, keep our property beautiful, or work behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly, your contributions matter. The Heron House would not be what it is without every single one of you.
Thank you for every smile, every helping hand, every difficult conversation, every act of kindness, and every moment you spend making our housemates feel safe, loved, respected, and at home.
We are so proud of the team we have built. We love you all, and we appreciate each of you more than words can adequately express.
Thank you for everything you do, every single day. 🤍
