Today was such a fun and exciting day at our Dawsonville clinic thanks to our amazing friends at the Cu***ng Police Department who traveled up to visit us! 🚔💙
Our clients had the BEST time exploring the police cars, talking on the loud speaker, seeing the flashing blue lights, and turning the sirens on and off. The smiles, laughter, excitement, and curiosity made for such a special experience for everyone involved!
One thing we are so proud of at BehaviorLink is how hard our staff works every single day to meet each child where they are. Throughout the visit, therapists ensured AAC devices stayed accessible and modeled language on devices to encourage communication opportunities. We provided breaks when needed, followed each child’s comfort level, and never pushed participation if a child was unsure or uncomfortable. Every child was able to experience the visit in a way that felt safe, supportive, and meaningful to them. 💙
During our time with the officers, we worked on so many incredible skills including:
✨ Functional communication
✨ Tacting and labeling
✨ Answering questions
✨ Following directions
✨ Waiting and taking turns
✨ Flexibility with changes in routine
✨ Social interaction and joint attention
✨ Tolerating novel sensory experiences
✨ Safety skills and community exposure
✨ Requesting breaks and advocating for needs
We are so thankful for officers who take the time to connect with our kids with kindness, patience, and genuine care. Experiences like this help build confidence, community relationships, and positive interactions that mean so much to our families and staff.
Thank you again to Chief Girvan and Sgt. Burns for making today so special for our kids and team! 🚓💙
