The stakes were HIGH at Nurturing Minds today… 😂🎃

We let our team (and a few very important little helpers 👀) decide this year’s Halloween costume theme, and the elimination process did NOT disappoint!

After saying goodbye to some pretty good contenders, Children’s Book Characters officially took the win! 📚✨

Now comes the fun part… figuring out who’s dressing up as WHO! 😂

Any guesses on which characters you’ll see around the clinic this Halloween? 👀

Wait… kids can say NO during ABA therapy? 👀

Yep! And at Nurturing Minds, we believe their voices deserve to be heard—even when they aren’t using words.

It’s called assent, and it’s an important part of how we approach therapy. 💚

A child turning away, pushing something aside, or showing signs of discomfort isn’t something we should automatically push through. It’s an opportunity to pause, get curious, and figure out what they might be communicating.

Sometimes that means offering a choice. Sometimes it’s changing our approach, taking a break, or finding a different way to work toward the same goal.

Honoring assent doesn’t mean we stop teaching. It means we include the child in the process.

Because meaningful progress shouldn’t come at the expense of a child’s comfort, autonomy, or trust.

October is AAC Awareness Month, and we’re celebrating all the different ways people connect, express themselves, and make their voices heard!

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) isn’t just about devices or pictures. It’s about giving individuals the tools and opportunities to communicate their wants, needs, thoughts, and feelings in ways that work for them.

What does ABA therapy actually look like?

If you’re new to the autism world, you may have heard “ABA” without really knowing what that means for your child.

At Nurturing Minds, therapy might look like playing alongside a peer, learning to ask for help, practicing getting dressed, communicating “I need a break,” working through a change in routine, building safety skills, or learning how to participate more independently in everyday life.

The goal isn’t to change who a child is. It’s to give them meaningful skills that help them communicate, navigate their world, and have greater independence.

Learning looks a little different around here… and that’s exactly how we like it!

Some days it looks like drawing and creating.

Some days it’s building something from scratch.

Sometimes it’s imaginative play, exploring new interests, or simply getting the chance to do something you’re proud of. ✨

Behind all of those moments, our kiddos are building communication, independence, creativity, problem-solving skills, flexibility, and so much more — all while getting to be kids first.

Because some of the best learning happens when it doesn’t feel like “work” at all.

💜 ONE YEAR OF EVA! 💙

Today we’re celebrating one whole year of Eva at Nurturing Minds! 🎉 And it’s honestly hard to put into words just how much she does for our clinic and our families.

As our Client Care Coordinator, Eva is often the very first friendly face our families meet when they begin their journey with us. From those first phone calls and intake questions to scheduling, day-to-day communication, and about a million other things that get thrown her way 😅 — she handles it all with so much care, patience, and a smile.

Eva has a way of making families feel welcomed and supported from the very beginning, and she keeps SO many things running smoothly behind the scenes. She has taken on every new task, change, random request, and “Hey Eva, can you…?” we’ve thrown at her over the past year and somehow always figures it out.

We are incredibly lucky to have someone who cares so deeply about our kiddos, our families, and our team. Nurturing Minds truly would not be the same without you!

Happy 1 year, Eva!! 🥳💙💜 Thank you for everything you do and for being such an important part of our little Nurturing Minds family. We appreciate you more than you know!

A week full of hellos, goodbyes, and lots of smiles at Nurturing Minds!

One of the sweetest (and sometimes hardest!) parts of what we do is watching our kiddos grow and eventually head off on their next adventure. This week, we said goodbye to one of our friends, and while we’re going to miss that smiling face around the clinic, we are SO excited for everything ahead! 🥹💛

At the same time, we got to welcome a brand new friend to the Nurturing Minds family! There’s already been plenty of exploring, playing, getting comfortable in a new space… and apparently making friends with the squirrels outside our windows.

In between the big transitions, there have been plenty of giggles, sensory breaks, silly moments, and just being kids. Exactly the way we like it around here.

Here’s to growing, new beginnings, and all the little moments in between!
