Happy Healthy Caregiver Helping overwhelmed family caregivers infuse self-care into their daily lives. Certified Caregiving Need help and support integrating caregiving with your life?

Through personal experience caring for my aging parents and brother with developmental disability, I have had to learn how to juggle work, raising children, caring for others, and my own health and happiness. I help overwhelmed family caregivers create infuse self-care into their daily lives to avoid (or recover from) caregiver burnout. Unpopular opinion: your grandma's hobbies were actually elite self-care. πŸ§ΆπŸ’›

Before wellness was an industry, before self-care was a trend β€” she was already doing it.

Knitting by the window. Tending her garden. Writing letters. Baking bread. Pressing flowers. Sitting on the porch with her tea and absolutely nowhere to be.

Slow. Quiet. Intentional. Analog. 🌿

No screen. No notifications. No algorithm telling her what to do next.

Just her hands, her home, and her peace.

Caregivers, what if THIS is what your nervous system has been craving?

Pick one this week. Just one. πŸ’›

β€œWhat I've helped companies address throughout my career, we have the same challenge in our personal lives, right? That was fundamentally the driver for me to do what I'm doing.” - Glenn Shimkus

Father’s Day Fun! Jason had β€˜Rage Room’ on his list. 😀

Kids treated this experience. Natalie is in Seattle travel nursing so I’m glad I captured the moments.

Jason loved smashing the car windshield. Jacob loved the Easter Bunny piΓ±ata, and I liked throwing the plate like a frisbee! πŸ’₯

Great activity to release caregiving and grief emotions

This Father's Day, we want to celebrate every dad in this community. πŸ’œ

The dads who are caregiving for their own parents.

The dads whose children are caregiving for THEM.

The dads who became caregivers for a spouse, a sibling, a friend.

And the dads we are missing this year. πŸ’›

β˜€οΈ Tomorrow, June 21 is The Longest Day β€” the summer solstice and the day with the most light.

The Alzheimer's Association chose this day deliberately. Because for families living with Alzheimer's, the days can feel endlessly long β€” and the journey is relentless.

This year the event has a new name that I love: Do What You Love to End ALZβ„’ πŸ’œ

The idea is beautifully simple: do something you love β€” walk, garden, cook, dance, knit, play music β€” and raise funds and awareness in honor of someone you love who has been touched by this disease.

I've walked alongside many Alzheimer's and dementia caregivers in this community. I hear how long your days are and feel. I know what it costs you β€” emotionally, physically, financially.

This June 21st, let's do what we love β€” for the ones we love. πŸ’›

πŸ’œ Are you participating in The Longest Day this year? Drop a comment and tell me what activity you're doing! I'd love to cheer you on.

Any other remote family caregivers out there doing β€˜power blocks’ of care? πŸ–οΈ

06/19/2026

Today is Juneteenth. πŸ–€β€οΈπŸ’š

We honor freedom β€” and the long, painful, resilient journey it took to get here.

As I think about Juneteenth and its spirit of liberation, community, and rest β€” I can't help but think about Black caregivers.

Because the data tells a story that deserves to be spoken out loud:

πŸ–€ Black caregivers are more likely to provide 40+ hours of care per week than their White peers

πŸ–€ Black and Hispanic older adults face disproportionately higher rates of dementia and chronic illness β€” meaning more family members step into complex caregiving roles

πŸ–€ And yet Black caregivers are less likely to access paid support, respite care, and community services

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom, self-determination, and the radical right to rest. And that message could not be more relevant for Black caregivers who are carrying so much.πŸ–€
