😖 If you’ve ever scratched your cornea, you know that even a tiny injury can be incredibly uncomfortable.

That’s because the cornea has a high concentration of nerve endings, making it one of the most sensitive tissues in the body. A scratch can cause pain, tearing, redness, light sensitivity, and that frustrating feeling that something is stuck in your eye. 👁️

Corneal abrasions often heal, but eye injuries should be taken seriously—especially when pain or changes in vision are involved.

🧠👁️ Seeing doesn’t stop at your eyes. Your optic nerve plays a crucial role in carrying visual information from the retina to your brain.

Made up of more than a million nerve fibers, it acts like a communication pathway—allowing your brain to process the information your eyes collect into the images you see.

Conditions such as glaucoma can damage the optic nerve over time, which is why protecting it is such an important part of preserving your vision.

📸 Every time you look at something, light travels through your eye and reaches the retina—a thin layer of light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.

The retina converts that light into electrical signals, which travel through the optic nerve to your brain. Your brain then interprets those signals as the images you see. 👁️🧠

It all happens almost instantly, all day long.

Keeping your retina healthy is an important part of protecting your sight for years to come.

👁️ Your eyes continuously produce and drain fluid to help maintain a healthy internal pressure.

When that system becomes unbalanced, pressure inside the eye can become elevated. For some people, elevated eye pressure increases the risk of damage to the optic nerve and glaucoma.

The tricky part? You usually can't feel elevated eye pressure—which is one reason glaucoma can progress without obvious warning signs.

Monitoring what's happening inside your eyes can help protect the vision you depend on every day. 💙

👀 They both involve improving vision, but LASIK and cataract surgery treat completely different parts of the eye.

✨ LASIK reshapes the cornea to change how light is focused.

✨ Cataract surgery removes the eye's cloudy natural lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens.

That means LASIK doesn't remove cataracts—and cataract surgery isn't simply “LASIK for older adults.”

Understanding what is actually causing changes in your vision is the first step toward finding the right treatment.

🌙 👁️ Walk from a bright room into a dark one and suddenly you can barely see? There’s a reason!

Your eyes need time to adapt to lower levels of light. Your pupils widen and specialized cells in your retina become more sensitive, gradually helping you see better in the darkness. 🔦

But if you’ve noticed that adjusting to darkness has become significantly harder, especially while driving at night, mention it at your next eye appointment.

👁️🔍 It’s one of the most important parts of your eye—but how often do you think about your cornea?

The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped surface at the front of your eye. It helps protect your eye AND plays a major role in focusing light so you can see clearly. ✨

Think of it as both a window and a lens for your eye. It bends incoming light toward the retina, providing much of the eye’s focusing power, while also acting as a protective barrier against dust, germs, and other irritants.

Because the cornea has to stay clear and properly shaped for light to focus correctly, even small changes can affect how sharp or comfortable your vision feels.

In fact, problems with the cornea can affect everything from sharpness and clarity to comfort and light sensitivity.

At Milan Eye Center, we’re here to help protect every part of your vision. 💙
