👨⚕️ Nearly 1 in 5 men admit they avoid seeing a doctor even when they know they should. Men's attitudes about healthcare don't begin in adulthood - they often begin in childhood.
Research shows that boys and adolescent males are less likely than girls to seek healthcare services or openly discuss health concerns. When children grow up believing they should simply "tough it out" or ignore symptoms, those habits can follow them into adulthood, leading to delayed diagnoses and missed opportunities for prevention.
That's why starting conversations early matters. Teaching boys that it's okay to talk about symptoms, ask questions, and participate in their healthcare helps build confidence and health awareness that can last a lifetime.
For ENT health, that may mean speaking up about hearing difficulties in the classroom, recurring ear infections, chronic congestion, loud snoring, poor sleep, or changes in their voice. These concerns are often treatable, but waiting months - or even years - to address them can affect quality of life and, in some cases, overall health.
At North Fulton ENT, we care for patients from infancy through adulthood. This Men's Health Month, let's help raise a generation of boys who understand that taking care of their health isn't a sign of weakness - it's a lifelong investment in their future.
