•Adoption Search Assistance Welcome to my page! and World History as it relates to my subject.

I just received my DBA for Tree of Life Genealogy Research in January 2017; however, I have been involved in genealogy on and off since about 1991, before I even knew what it was. As a child, I was interested in my family’s history and took over writing in our old Family Bible at an early age, and often did school projects on the subject of family trees and family history. I was adopted at birth a

nd was always curious about who I was biologically. In the early 1990’s I started searching for my birthparents – it was never to replace my parents – but only to learn more about myself. It was during this search (before the days of finding information online) that I learned how to use the genealogical resources in the library (microfilm, microfiche, old city directories, etc.). My search would grow warm and then cold over the years, but finally SUCCESS! In 1993, I met my birthmother and birthfather, and learned I had four half-brothers. I went on to earn my degree in journalism from The University of Texas at Austin, and as part of my studies, I took several classes in investigative journalism… always asking Who, What, Where, When, Why & How? I have taken what I learned from both my education and my adoption search, and applied this to my genealogy research. I don’t just rely on online searchable databases, but take it a step further – looking for news articles, surname origins, and studying U.S. Please let me know how I can help you!

This year marks 140 years since the dedication of the Statue of Liberty in 1886. She was a gift from France; an idea born to Frenchman Edouard de Laboulaye in 1865 and designed by sculptor Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi. The statue encompasses meaningful symbolism and celebrates America’s liberty and freedom. Much went into the fundraising and construction by both the French and American people, as more than 20 years passed between thought to construction to dedication.

Also notable was the sonnet by Emma Lazarus, “The New Colossus”, which was originally penned in 1883 as part of an art and literary auction raising funds for the construction of the statue’s pedestal. Lazarus was born in New York City in 1849, and although not an immigrant herself, she volunteered her time helping refugees, and her poem was a reflection of these encounters. Lazarus passed only a year after the statue’s dedication; her poem was rediscovered in 1901 and subsequently inscribed on Lady Liberty’s pedestal in 1903.

The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

She is an icon, a national treasure, and one of the most recognizable figures in the world. Each year millions who cherish her ideals make the journey to experience her history and grandeur in person. She is the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom, inspiration, and hope.

Happy New Year from TOLGR! 🎉🌳🧬
This time of year means … Vision Boards! 🌟
This has been an annual tradition for me since 2016! My word for the year is EXPAND. I let ChatGPT pick my word this year, based on what she knows of me. She also provided a few travel images and a cute depiction of me & my husband as punk rock Barbie dolls! 😂😍
What is your inspiration, word or quote for the year?
