October is National Physical Therapy Month β and for seniors, PT is one of the most underrated tools for staying independent. πͺ
Here's what often gets missed: physical therapy isn't only for after an injury. It's one of the best ways to *prevent* one.
What PT does for older adults:
πͺ Builds the leg and core strength that prevents falls
π§ Improves balance and body awareness
π©Ή Manages chronic pain without relying solely on medication
πΆ Restores confidence after a hospital stay or surgery
π‘ Keeps seniors mobile enough to stay in their own homes
But here's the part families don't always realize: the real progress happens between sessions. A therapist might see your loved one twice a week. The other five days are where results are made β or lost.
That's where our caregivers come in. We encourage prescribed exercises, assist with safe movement, and keep an eye on balance changes so your loved one keeps the ground they've gained.
Movement is medicine β and consistency is the dose. π
