We are having holy fangirl vibes!
Our patroness, St. Edith Stein (St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross) just had her feast day on August 9th and we can't help but keep celebrating her!
She was a Catholic convert from orthodox judaism of her youth and atheism of her university years. She studied and wrote as a philosopher, became a Carmelite nun, and was killed in Auschwitz in 1942.
Julius Marcan, a survivor of Auschwitz and fellow prisoner of St. Teresa, stated, “It was Edith Stein’s (St. Teresa’s) complete calm and self-possession that marked her out from the rest of the prisoners, . . Edith Stein went among the women like an angel, comforting, helping, and consoling them.”
These words attest to the saint’s inner strength and ability to empathize with others, even in the midst of extreme suffering. Her example is one our counselors reflect on and emulate when working with our clients.
