ABA or School? A Choice No Family Should Have to Make.
For many families, this is a very real dilemma.
A child may be prescribed medically necessary ABA therapy, yet once they enter public school, their private ABA team may not be permitted to continue providing that treatment during the school day. At the same time, the behavioral support available through the educational system may look very different from the individualized treatment recommended by the child’s clinical team.
This creates a disconnect between two systems serving the exact same child.
What if we approached this differently?
What if qualified private ABA providers could work alongside public schools—with parental consent, appropriate safeguards, clear boundaries, and collaboration with the educational team?
Not to replace teachers.
Not to replace special education services.
Not to tell schools how to educate children.
But to allow children to access education AND medically necessary treatment when they need both.
Some states are already exploring or implementing approaches like this.
Maybe the conversation shouldn’t be “School or ABA?”
Maybe it should be: “How can we make both work together?” 💙
