Most people misunderstand their metabolism.

They think exercise is the biggest thing determining how many calories they burn every day.

It isn’t.

Your metabolism is an umbrella made up of several different components—and the largest one is usually your basal metabolic rate (BMR): the energy your body uses just to keep you alive.

Then there’s NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis): walking around, standing, doing chores, taking the stairs, fidgeting—all the movement you do that isn’t structured exercise.

Exercise activity thermogenesis contributes too, but often less than people expect.

And the thermic effect of food? Yes, digesting and processing food burns calories—but it’s a relatively small piece of the total.

Understanding these pieces changes the way you think about fat loss, calorie expenditure, and the dreaded phrase:

“My metabolism is broken.”

It probably isn’t.

Learn what actually makes up your metabolism, and suddenly weight management makes a lot more sense.

Save this one. You’ll want to remember it.

📚 STRENGTH AFTER 60 IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING!

I genuinely believe this is one of the most useful health and fitness books you can give a parent, grandparent—or read yourself.

And I’m not saying that just because I wrote it.

There are no fads, gimmicks, miracle diets, or “one weird trick” nonsense in this book. Just practical, evidence-based information you can actually use.

We cover strength training, cardiovascular exercise, calories and macronutrients, metabolism, fat loss vs. weight loss, sarcopenia, osteoporosis, fall prevention, and how to build habits you can actually maintain.

One of the biggest reasons I wrote this book is simple: getting weaker with age is not something we should just accept.

If your parents or grandparents are becoming less steady on their feet, losing strength, or becoming a fall risk, resistance training can be one of the most important things they do to maintain their independence and quality of life.

And despite the title, you absolutely do not have to be 60+ to benefit from this book.

Behold the pyramid.

Keep in mind the interesting order of the pyramid! It’s from bottoms up! Just like the iceberg that sank the Titanic, the husk of this is in the bottom unseen, which is behavior in lifestyle.

Sometimes we get so into the weeds and intricacies of diet world so much that we forget about what truly matters, which is not eating in a timeframe, not the next 1200 cal diet, not the next 1200 cal diet eating gruel packets, excluding an entire macro nutrient (not eating carbs, a.k.a. keto), eating only 1 meal in the day, juice cleanse or 6 day shred for the summer; it’s managing your caloric intake along with your protein and fiber intake!

Think of calories like money. Some goes in some days and every day you lose a little because of the taxes of life. So some goes in, and some go out every day, and it’s happening in little chunks.
That’s just like money — There is no better comparison!

Which vegetables have the highest amount of protein?
Sprouts, fiddlehead Fern and Watercrest. As we age, it is more and more important to get high-quality protein, which will either be dairy or meat. At the same time you should get fiber in. But if you are being a vegetarian for moral purposes, then you should definitely be looking into these plants.

Unstable device training does not work! Any Trainer that uses a BOSU® bosu ball is a piece of trash. Shame on this stupid trainer classwithcoop for this terrible programming!

FULL BODY BURNER🔥

This is exactly how you do NOT get in shape — by doing absolutely stupid workouts like this. There’s no such thing as a full body burner. Also, this high intensity heart rate stuff is not how you lift weights. You should let your heart rate come down to normal levels between sets. Quit following morons on the Internet and do isolation of each muscle group, letting your heart come down between each set!

Piece of red velvet cake, 820 cal. One doughnut is 200 cal. A lot of people just think about being off their diet or being bad and have it as on/off switch and would view the cake and the doughnut as equally bad.

It’s OK to be a little bit off your diet, but just keep in mind of the calories even when you’re not on big time because they always count.

Don’t get normal party dip. Get plain Greek yogurt 0% milk, fat, and mix it in with the powdered ranch or onion.
