At Cliniapy Helping House, we understand that most parents do not sign their child up for therapy because they randomly decided one day that therapy would be nice.

Most of the time, it is because something starts to feel off.

Your child starts acting different.

They are more emotional.

They are more angry.

They are shutting down more.

They keep saying, “I’m fine,” but as the parent, you know something is not right.

And that can be one of the hardest parts of parenting. Because you can love your child deeply and still not fully understand what they are feeling on the inside.

A lot of parents try everything first.

They try talking.

They try consequences.

They try taking the phone.

They try being more patient.

They try prayer.

They try giving it time.

And sometimes, even after all of that, the same behaviors keep showing up.

That is usually when parents start to wonder:

Maybe this is deeper than attitude.

Maybe this is deeper than being defiant.

Maybe my child is trying to communicate something, but they do not have the words for it yet.

That is where therapy can help.

At Cliniapy Helping House, we believe therapy for kids and teens is not about saying something is “wrong” with your child.

It is about giving them a safe space to process what they are feeling, learn how to cope, and better understand why their brain and body are reacting the way they are.

And we also believe parents need support too.

Because when your child is struggling, it can feel scary. It can feel confusing. And honestly, it can make you feel like you are failing, even when you are really just trying your best.

Getting your child help is not giving up.

It is showing up.

And you do not have to wait until things become a crisis before your child gets support.

Cliniapy Helping House is here to support kids, teens, and the parents who love them.

I’ve been seeing something beautiful happen in our community.

More Black families are starting to believe in therapy.

Not because something is “wrong” with them.
Not because they failed as parents.
Not because their child is “bad.”

But because they are realizing that support is not weakness. It is love.

And honestly, that means a lot to me.

Because I also know there are still families who are stuck in that old mindset of, “We don’t air our business.” And I understand where it came from. A lot of our parents and grandparents had to survive in a world where being vulnerable did not always feel safe. They had to be strong because they did not always have the option to be soft.

So I don’t look at that mindset with judgment.

I look at it with compassion.

But I also think about the kids who are silently carrying anxiety, depression, grief, anger, bullying, pressure, and trauma because nobody wants to call it what it is.

I think about the child who gets labeled “disrespectful” when they are really overwhelmed.

The teenager who shuts down because they do not know how to explain what they feel.

The parent who loves their child deeply but was never given the language for emotions either.

And that is why this conversation matters.

Therapy is not about exposing family business.

It is about giving our children tools we may not have had.

It is about breaking cycles without blaming the people who came before us.

That is the shift I’m praying we keep seeing in our community.

Because Black children deserve support too.

Black parents deserve support too.

And getting help does not make your family weak.

It means you love your family enough to do something different.

Many children with ADHD are not disruptive.
They are quiet. Distracted. Overwhelmed internally.

Inattentive ADHD often presents as:
• Daydreaming
• Trouble starting tasks
• Emotional dysregulation
• Low frustration tolerance

Parents are often told:
“They’re just not trying hard enough.”

But effort is not the issue. Executive functioning is.

When we understand the brain, we stop shaming the child.

Most parents wait too long to get support because they assume their child will “grow out of it.”

Sometimes they do.

Sometimes they just grow into stronger versions of the same unregulated patterns.
