A stronger, more coordinated response to adolescent health is taking shape in Lwengo District.

We recently joined Ministry of health, district leaders, technical officers, cultural and religious leaders, security representatives, young people, and implementing partners for the establishment of the District Committee on Adolescent Health (DiCAH) in Lwengo District.

DiCAH is a multisectoral district structure designed to strengthen coordination and supervision of adolescent and school health activities.

During the meeting, we shared key learnings from 10 months of implementing an Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (ASRH) pilot in Lwengo. These learnings highlighted the diverse challenges adolescents face and the importance of a coordinated, multisectoral response.

The committee was officially established, with members nominated and briefed on their roles and responsibilities. Moving forward, the committee will provide a platform for coordination, advocacy, resource mobilisation, and strengthened leadership for adolescent and school health.

This marks an important step towards district ownership and the long-term sustainability of adolescent health and sexual and reproductive health services in Lwengo.

We are proud to work alongside the Ministry of Health, Lwengo District Local Government, young people, and other implementing partners towards a future where adolescents can access responsive information, services, and support.

Our footprint continues to grow, but there is still more work to do.

A health facility may be only a few Kilometres away on a map, but for someone living in a rural community, reaching it can mean navigating steep hills, walking long distances, or paying costly transport fares.

That’s why we work alongside Government health facilities to bring healthcare closer to where people live.

In 2025, we continued bringing Family Planning services closer to communities across Lwengo, Kalangala, Masaka District and Masaka City.

💊 264 Family Planning outreaches conducted
👥 15,661 people reached with Family Planning services
👭 27,943.16 Couple Years of Protection (CYPs) generated

The high CYP output reflects the scale and effectiveness of the intervention in supporting informed reproductive health decisions .

94% of adolescents want more information about sexual and reproductive health according to our new survey findings.

But if awareness of services is relatively high, why are only fewer adolescents accessing SRH services?

Our new baseline assessment for the Treat & Teach 2025–2026 Project in Lwengo and Mpigi districts explored what adolescents, communities, and health workers are saying about access to sexual and reproductive health services.

The findings reveal important gaps in information, service utilization, privacy, stigma, distance, and the availability of truly adolescent-friendly care.

🏥512 outreaches through our Medicycles Programme
💊264 outreaches through our Treat & Teach Family Planning Project

Together, these outreaches reached 34,937 patient visits, helping more people access essential healthcare services closer to where they live.
