Recognizing the warning signs of a mental health crisis can save a life. Often, those who are struggling won't ask for help directly; their actions, words, and subtle behavioral shifts speak for them.
Here is what to watch for and how to take action:
🔹 Listen to Their Words: Direct or indirect statements about feeling trapped, being a burden, or wanting to end their pain should always be taken seriously—never brushed off, even if said in jest.
🔹 Watch for Behavioral Changes: Pay attention to sudden social withdrawal, uncharacteristic isolation, mood swings, or giving away prized possessions.
🔹 Ask the Hard Questions Directing Care: Asking "Are you thinking about su***de?" will not plant the idea. Instead, it offers a safe, non-judgmental space for them to open up.
If you or someone you know is struggling, you do not have to navigate it alone. Immediate, confidential support is available 24/7.
Call or Text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.
