We love hearing updates from our Dallas Hearing Foundation families, and Tauriel’s story is one worth celebrating!
This year, Tauriel graduated from preschool and has had an incredible year filled with growth, learning, and amazing progress. Her mom shares that she absolutely loves wearing her cochlear implants and is thriving as she continues to develop her listening and spoken language skills.
Now, Tauriel is preparing for an exciting new adventure as she heads to the Clarke School for Speech and Language. We are so proud of all she has accomplished and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this bright little girl.
Stories like Tauriel’s remind us why access to hearing technology and early intervention services are so important. Thank you to our supporters who help make journeys like hers possible.
Congratulations, Tauriel! 🎉 We are cheering you on every step of the way! 💙👂🌟

Representation Matters! ✨
We love seeing the hearing loss community represented in mainstream media and fashion.
Twenty-two-year-old Imy Harris was recently featured in British Vogue, modeling designer hearing aid covers created by Destiny Pinto. The collaboration highlights how hearing technology can be both functional and fashionable while celebrating the individuality of those who wear it.
Imy shared that she experienced “massive imposter syndrome” but described the opportunity as incredible, adding that so many people would be able to see themselves reflected in the magazine.
At the Dallas Hearing Foundation, we believe visibility matters. When children and adults with hearing loss see themselves represented in media, fashion, and popular culture, it helps break down stereotypes and reminds everyone that hearing devices are not something to hide—they are something to celebrate.
💙 Here’s to greater representation, increased awareness, and a world where hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other hearing technology are seen as part of the diverse ways people experience life.

🌟 Representation matters — and PBS Kids is showing why! 🌟
Have you seen Work It Out Wombats! on PBS Kids? One episode introduces Bex, a character who is hard of hearing, uses a cochlear implant, a hearing aid, and signs in ASL — giving kids a chance to see hearing differences represented in a fun, real-life way. In the episode, the kids go swimming and navigate some of the real challenges that come with communication when devices come off, while showing empathy, teamwork, and inclusion. 💙🦻🤟
We LOVE seeing media that helps children understand that there are many ways to communicate — and that hearing technology and sign language are all part of real life for so many families.
Have you watched this episode? We’d love to hear what you thought! 💬✨ InclusionMatters WorkItOutWombats PBSKids

The Dallas Hearing Foundation pauses to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Memorial Day is a time to reflect on their courage, their dedication, and the freedoms we enjoy because of their selfless service.
As we gather with family and friends this holiday weekend, may we also take a moment to remember those who gave everything for our nation.
From all of us at the Dallas Hearing Foundation, we extend our gratitude to the heroes we honor today and to the families who carry their legacy forward.

A helpful update for the deaf and hard of hearing community in Texas!
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), in partnership with the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities, has updated Texas driver licenses and ID cards through the Texas Driving with Disability Program to improve communication with law enforcement.
Eligible Texans can now choose to have “Deaf/Hard of Hearing” or “Communication Impediment” displayed on the front of their driver license or ID card. This can help alert law enforcement that a person may have a disability or health condition that impacts communication.
This is an important step toward greater accessibility, awareness, and safer interactions for all Texans. 💙👂

We are a day late, but we celebrate the incredible Speech-Language Pathologists who help give the gift of communication, confidence, and connection. 💙
At the Dallas Hearing Foundation, we see firsthand the life-changing impact SLPs make for children and adults as they build communication skills, find their voice, and reach milestones that once felt out of reach.
Your work is not just clinical—it is transformational. Thank you for partnering with families, encouraging progress, and helping create brighter futures one word, one sound, and one connection at a time.
Happy National Speech-Language Pathologist Day! We are so grateful for all you do. 🦻🗣️💙

The Dallas Hearing Foundation loves sharing the incredible history, advocacy, and achievements of the deaf and hard of hearing community.
Pictured here is John Zakutney, one of the “Gallaudet Eleven,” a group of 11 deaf men recruited by NASA in the late 1950s and 1960s to help study the effects of space flight and weightlessness on the human body. Remarkably, their deafness made them largely immune to motion sickness, making them ideal research volunteers for these groundbreaking studies.
The contributions of the Gallaudet Eleven played an important role in helping NASA better understand how humans could function in space before astronauts were sent on missions. Their story is a powerful reminder that differences are not limitations — they can be strengths that change the world.
At the Dallas Hearing Foundation, we celebrate the unique abilities, resilience, and impact of the deaf and hard of hearing community every day. 💙👂🚀
