Today marks 1,600 days on the transplant list in Texas.

For many O positive kidney recipients, the average wait for a deceased donor kidney can range from 5–8 years depending on the transplant center and region. In some areas of Texas, that wait can exceed 10 years. ()

Because of preemptive time served, I have accumulated 1,600 days toward my wait time — approximately 4.4 years of this journey already behind me.

At this time, I am temporarily off the active deceased donor list as I await my bilateral nephrectomy to make room for a new kidney. Even during this temporary inactive status, the waiting, preparing, and hoping continue every day.

What many people may not realize is that a living donor could change my life in moments.

One decision. One match. One selfless act could shorten years of waiting and create the opportunity for renewed health, freedom, and life beyond dialysis and surgeries.

This journey has required endurance, faith, resilience, and trust in God through every appointment, every setback, and every milestone. While 1,600 days is a significant number, I still believe my story is unfolding exactly as it should.

Today, I am grateful:
• for every prayer lifted on my behalf
• for my medical team and support system
• for those who advocate for organ donation
• and for every person willing to learn about living kidney donation

Please continue to share awareness, register as an organ donor, and consider learning more about living donation. Someone’s “yes” could truly save a life. 💚

**No one talks about the wait…**

The space between
“your kidneys are starting to decline”
and
“let’s prepare you for dialysis.”

The quiet fear.
The adjusting.
Learning how to live… differently.

Then you find a rhythm.
A routine.
A new normal.

A year goes by. Maybe a little more.

And then—
**boom.**

It stops working.
Your lifeline clots.

No warning.
No time to process.

Just…
**Emergency surgery.**

But here’s what *they don’t tell you*:

You learn how strong you really are.
You learn how to fight on days you didn’t choose.
You learn that resilience isn’t loud—
sometimes it’s just… showing up again.

And you also learn this truth:

**Dialysis is not the destination. It’s the bridge.**

A **living kidney donor** can change everything.
Not just extend life—
but restore it.

So I’m using my voice.

To raise awareness.
To start conversations.
To remind someone out there that saying “yes” to being a donor
could save a life like mine.

Traveling Man's kidneys are estimated to be the size of 4 footballs.

Make a fist with your hand. That’s the average size of a typical kidney. Now think of a football. That’s how big a polycystic kidney can be. Oh, and it can weigh up to 30 pounds. Hard to imagine, isn’t it?
