Mark Lamster, fellow of the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture at SMU, earned the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Criticism for his writing on Dallas architecture and civic life.
The Pulitzer committee recognized him for rigorous, passionate work that elevated conversations about civic identity and the future of shared public spaces. Lamster joined The Dallas Morning News in 2013 and has written for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and the Los Angeles Times. His upcoming book, "Welcome to Paradox City", a history of Dallas told through its architecture, publishes this August.
