August 1 is World Lung Cancer Awareness Day. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States - more than breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers combined - and often has no early symptoms. But there is hope: with a low-dose CT lung cancer screening, the odds improve.
Low-dose CT lung screening is recommended for adults aged 50 to 77 who:
✔️ Have a 20+ pack-year smoking history (1 pack/day for 20 years, or 2 packs/day for 10 years)
✔️ Are still smoking or quit within the past 15 years
✔️ Are asymptomatic (no current signs or symptoms of lung cancer)
Care for those in your life who could have lung cancer and encourage them to get screened today.
