🎉 **Happy Birthday to Melanie!** 🎉

Since joining us when we opened our new location three years ago, Melanie has become such an important part of the heart of MoveStudio. You’ll often find her at the front desk, greeting clients, answering questions, solving problems, and making sure everyone feels at home when they walk through our doors.

But Melanie also contributes something uniquely *her* to our community. She handcrafts the beautiful bracelets we give our clients when they reach their **100, 500, and 1,000 class milestones**. 💛 Every one of those bracelets represents years of movement, commitment, and showing up, and we love that they’re made by the hands of someone who has cheered on so many of those clients along the way.

Melanie is creative, caring, dependable, and always willing to jump in wherever she’s needed. We’re incredibly lucky that three years ago, when MoveStudio began a new chapter, Melanie became part of it.

Love yoga but want more time to really explore each pose?

While Flow Yoga links postures together in a continuous sequence, Hatha Yoga slows down the transitions and holds poses longer, giving you time to breathe, refine your alignment, and discover more depth in each posture.

But don't mistake slower for easier! 💪

Holding a pose requires strength, stability, concentration, and muscular endurance. And with more time in each posture, you can make subtle adjustments that improve your technique and help you get more out of your practice.

Strong Backs Don't Crack! 💪🏽

Want to improve your posture, protect your spine, and make everyday activities easier? It's time to build some upper body strength!

As women age, maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important. Strong back, shoulder, and arm muscles help us lift, carry, reach, and move with greater confidence. They also support better posture, balance, and long-term independence.

And no, you don't have to lift heavy weights to get started! Strength is built gradually, with good technique and the right amount of challenge for YOUR body.

🎉 A New Face + A Birthday to Celebrate! 🎂

It’s a big week for Jasmine Barrios! Jasmine officially joins our Front Desk Sales Team on Tuesday, October 13—and just five days later, she celebrates her birthday on Sunday, October 18! 💜

Originally from Anchorage, Alaska, Jasmine has called Dallas home since 2021. She loves staying active with yoga, Pilates, running, and long walks, and when she’s not moving, you might find her exploring a bookstore, trying a new restaurant (she’s a serious foodie!), heading to a concert, or hanging out with her two cats, Moose and Stella.

You’ll see Jasmine at the front desk a couple of evenings each week and helping out on weekends. We’re excited for her to get to know our MoveStudio community.

Pink ribbons. Pink shirts. Pink balloons. Pink everything.

And for many women who have actually experienced breast cancer, there can be a very real sense of "pink fatigue".

Awareness matters, but women recovering from breast cancer need MORE than awareness.

They may be dealing with limited range of motion after surgery. Tightness through the chest and shoulders. Weakness. Changes in posture. Fear of moving or lifting again. Risk of lymphedema. And the difficult process of learning to trust their bodies after treatment.

At MoveStudio, our pink ribbon isn't just something we wear.

IT'S SOMETHING WE DO. 💪

Our Pink Ribbon Program is a 6-week, Pilates-based breast cancer recovery program designed to help women safely regain mobility, rebuild strength, improve function, and get back to the things they want to do in their lives.

The program was created by Doreen Puglisi, M.S., an exercise physiologist and breast cancer survivor, who recognized the need for specialized exercise and rehabilitation support for women following breast cancer surgery and treatment.

At MoveStudio, the program is led by a certified Breast Cancer Recovery Specialist who works directly with women in our community. It's hands-on. It's personal. And it's focused on helping each woman move forward from where she is. 🌸

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're proud to go beyond awareness and be part of the recovery.

“Lift heavy,” they said.

But what does HEAVY actually mean when you’re 50, 60, or 70?

We hear from women all the time who know they SHOULD be strength training, but they’re afraid of getting hurt. And honestly? Handing someone a heavy dumbbell and telling her to “just lift heavier” isn’t great advice.

Heavy is relative.

For one woman, 5 pounds may be challenging. For another, it may be 10, 15, or 25. What matters is choosing a weight that challenges you WITH GOOD FORM AND CONTROL and then gradually progressing as your body adapts.

➡️ That progression matters, especially as we get older.

Your muscles may feel ready for more before your joints and connective tissues are. That’s one reason we don’t go from 5-pound dumbbells to 15s just because 5 suddenly feels easy.

We build.

5 pounds becomes 7.
7 pounds becomes 10.
10 pounds eventually becomes 12 or 15.

We warm up. We learn proper technique. We give our bodies time to recover. We pay attention to the difference between muscles working hard and a joint telling us something isn’t right.

And yes, eventually we want those weights to feel HEAVY, because challenging your muscles is how you build and preserve the strength you need for the things that really matter: carrying groceries, lifting a suitcase, getting up from the floor, climbing stairs, maintaining strong bones, and staying independent.

So if you’re intimidated by the message that women over 50 need to “lift heavy,” remember:

➡️ Heavy isn’t where you have to start. Heavy is where you can safely end up.

And you don’t have to figure out how to get there by yourself. 💪

🎉 Help us wish a very Happy Birthday to Luke Ketterhagen!

We’ve loved welcoming Luke into the MoveStudio community this month, from Saturday morning Hatha Yoga to two beautiful Friday night Candlelight Yoga workshops. We’re so glad his wife Kourtney had the intuition to send our instructor search his way—and that it brought Luke through our doors!

Happy Birthday, Luke! We hope the year ahead brings plenty of adventure, good health, meaningful work, and maybe a little more time with us at MoveStudio. 🎂🧘‍♂️

You know the saying: If you don’t use it, you lose it.

Think about playing the piano. If you played years ago but haven’t touched the keys in 10 years, would you expect to sit down today and play just as well as you did then?

Probably not. You stopped practicing.
➡️ Our bodies aren’t all that different.

✦ If you always take the elevator, you’re not practicing climbing stairs.
✦ If you always push yourself out of a chair with your arms, you’re not practicing getting up with your legs.
✦If you stopped getting down on the floor years ago, you’re not practicing getting back up.
✦ If you avoid bending and reaching toward your feet, eventually something as simple as tying your own shoes may become harder.

Sometimes we don’t lose an ability simply because we got older.
➡️ We lose it because we stopped doing the things that kept that ability alive.

So take the stairs when you can. Get on the floor. Move your joints. Challenge your muscles. Keep asking your body to do the things you want it to still be able to do 10, 20 and 30 years from now.

Because “use it or lose it” isn’t really about exercise.
➡️ It’s about being able to keep doing life. 💜
