"When will it hit my house?"

There's 8 million people in North/Central TX, so we can't possibly answer everyone. Here's a map with a bunch of cities on it for you to check yourself.

Rain will change to ice and road conditions will deteriorate by the time listed on the map. When your temp falls below 32 degrees bridges and overpasses in your area will start to ice up. When your temp drops below 30 degrees, expect surface roads to start getting slick.

We hope this helps you plan when to be where you need to be to stay safe!

Noon Wednesday Update: The forecast is on track and there are no surprises in the weather data so far. The precipitation is developing to our west as expected, and freezing temperatures are slowly making their way south into North Texas.

There is still time to prepare. If you can stay inside from Wednesday night through Friday that would be best, so consider changing your plans if able. Do you have essential supplies for a couple days? Are exposed pipes and faucets wrapped up? Are your cell phone batteries charged up? Don't forget about pets. Check on vulnerable friends and family to ensure they're ready too!

Be careful out there over the next couple days.

Lots of talk about the "cap" and its role on days like today. What is it? See the graphic for more info.

The cap can suppress storm development completely, or it can allow more sunshine and instability to build up until it breaks and results in rapidly forming severe storms.

Please stay weather aware today.

...Central Plains...
A lead low-amplitude shortwave trough amid moderately strong
southwesterly flow aloft will influence surface cyclogenesis across
western Kansas today, with a surface triple point establishing in
vicinity of west-central Kansas by early evening. Although southerly winds will strengthen ahead of the low, the source region air mass will limit surface dewpoints to the middle/upper 40s F. Although overall buoyancy will be weak (MUCAPE less than 1000 J/kg), steep mid-level lapse rates and ample effective shear may support isolated severe storms capable of hail and perhaps localized wind damage late this afternoon through early/mid-evening, particularly in areas near/north of I-70 of northern Kansas into southern Nebraska (mainly south of I-80).

Severe weather, tornado, thunderstorm, fire weather, storm report, tornado watch, severe thunderstorm watch, mesoscale discussion, convective outlook products from the Storm Prediction Center.

04/16/2019

There will be a threat for strong to severe storms across the region on Wednesday afternoon. The greatest threat for severe storms will be near and east of the US Highway 281 corridor. The primary hazards will be very large to giant hail, damaging straight line winds and a few tornadoes. Continue to check back for updates to the forecast!
